ATTENTION NEWSGROUP ADMINISTRATOR

On Wednesday, August 27, 2003 I placed a message on your "alt.pets.cats"
Newsgroup entitled "I'm Terminally ILL:  MIssy & Rascal Need a Loving
Home"

When I placed that message I foolishly used my real E-Mail address
without 'cloaking' it with a dummy insert to protect it from SPAM-hunter
robots.  I am now being besieged with a torrent of malicious SPAM E-mail
as a result.

Please remove all of my NewsGroup messages and I will re-submit them
with the proper dummy inserts.

Thank you.

Your email messages will remain in cyberspace forever.

Unfortunately, it's too late.  Those groups "harvest" addresses, and you are
already on their list.  Your best option might be to set up another address
and anonymize it.

It's too late for that you are already on the spammers list. You might
get your ISP's news admin to remove the messages but your messages have
already been propagated around to who knows how many servers. If your
ISP's news server supports cancels you can cancel the messages yourself
provided that you can see the messages. But not all news servers in the
internet accept cancels so the messages cannot be removed from them. In
many ways the damage is done you can only deal with it.

I don't think there's one... this is unmoderated group

As others have pointed out, it's too late. Get a decent spam filter! I use
http://spambayes.sourceforge.net/ and am very pleased with it...

This is exactly why I run my own mail server, it allows me to deny mail
and keep it from ever being accepted by the e-mail server at all.
Granted I have been making posts on the news groups and have been
getting the Microsoft Update virus by the hundreds. Once your e-mail
address is in cyberspace it's lost to spammers. But if you reject the
e-mail at the server spammers give up when they start receving "Access
denied" error messages and remove you from the list eventually.

Even if you use spam filter software on your home PC you will still get
spamed because your internet providers e-mail server is STILL receiving
the spam. A successful spam is one that makes it to the server, weather
you read it or not.
