Yesterday my mom found my cat our inside/outside cat sitting by our
aprtment in a daze. She could hardly stand or walk strait, and she was
twitching/convulsing. We live in san antonio and It was a pretty hot
day out, so my mom figured it was just heat stroke (alothough it had
never happend befor and there's always plenny of water for her) and we
got her to drink water till she wouldnt drink anymore. It's now been
more then 12 hours and she's seems almost comletely paralized from the
neck down. She doesnt seem to be in any kind of pain, but im sure she
must have gotten hold of somesort of toxin, beacause my girlfriend saw
her earlyer that morning and said she wasn't walking strait. We haven't
taken her to a vet, and due to money we probably won't be able to. Does
any one have any idea what might be wrong with her or what we can do?
skuddo@gmail.com - 09 Jul 2006 17:56 GMT
I Forgot to add. She has pooped once and peed atleast 2 times, she can
kinda move her front legs and tail, but nothing ellse below her neck.

TAKE HER TO A VET!!

Most vets will allow you to pay your bills off a month at a time if you
explain what your finances are.  Your cat needs to see a vet now.

It could be anti-freeze poisoning or some other type of poisoning. Anything
is possible. I know this is a dilemma for you since you maybe don't have the
$100 or more that a vet bill could cost. Perhaps if you call your local
animal shelter or Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals they may
have a suggestion.

Tick paralysis is another possibility. Inspect her skin thoroughy and
remove any ticks.
Barb P - 10 Jul 2006 13:06 GMT
I am not exactly walking around with a billfold with 100 dollar bills, but
if one of my cats was like yours, money would be my last thought...I care
for my cats too much to see them sick...Please take kitty to the
vet...ASAP!!!

Take your kitty to the vet, one of my cats was injured about 6-8 months
ago. This may sound odd but he was paralized from the tail down.  The
seriousness of this is the cat was unable to may bowel/bladder movements
independently.  We battle with our cattle for months, intially he was
coming around, his back right leg was casted for at least 5 to 6 weeks.
His personality was coming back, he as cleaning himself, playing, then
bowel impactions started, he started losing lots of weight. Towards the
end started seizuring violently, sadly we had to put him down to ease
his pain and ours, I still miiss him today.

If I had to deal with six cat personalities I would end up in an insane
asylum. One arrogant princess (who is cranky in the mornings until I dish
out the canned food) is all I can handle. But it all evens out in the end. I
just finished mounting my stamps with some help from Isis who decided to
walk around on the table while I had the 1973 India commemoratives spread
out and now she's on the floor listening to music while I gripe here on the
newsgroup. <-:

Who is it that has five cats? Spider?

Actually, it would probably be a very simple life.

Feed cats,
Vacuum hair,
Empty litter box.

Actually, I do not have any carpets--all hardwood or tile, so I just get the
dust mop or swiffer mop and go around the house..the youngest one follows me
around when I do this.
My mom had 6 kids so I guess I am following in her footsteps with 6 - 4
legged kids :)
I can identify somewhat what she went through in keeping us all in line.
But, I wouldnt know how to act with just one or two cats :-)
I even take care of the strays outside...my cats are strictly indoors....the
other day, the neighbors unspayed female was taking on the resident tom who
was more than willing to obliged...not sure how that turned out, but Morris
came back with a bloodied ear..I tried to wash it off.. didnt see him
yesterday...hope he;s ok...

Wimp? I'm a hero! I give my whole life, my life's blood, my money, my time,
and all my energy to one cat. I serve Her Majesty. I named her after Isis,
the Queen Mother Egyptian Goddess of the Universe!

She gets her ears scratched, her picture taken, has a personal groomer and
bather (the vet), and I scoop the litter box once a day. I believe in the
One God and worship accordingly. If you have Xumpteen cats then you are a
pantheist and no single deity gets his or her full measure of worship!

Now, think THAT over! <-:

Actually Do it for 6  multiple times a day for each of them at their beckon
call   and keep them all satisfied at the same time  that is a true test of
worship.  If I was a stud I would be rich and famous I would be adored by
woman from a far for having multiple talents

Multiple gods are fine in my book  multiple prayers  multiple answers not
stuck with the same old answer or routine keeps life interesting and moving

I am not knocking you Mike  any person that takes the time, energy and love
to care for any animal is a hero in my book ;-)

Mike, when I am able to get another cat, if it's a female, She will be
named Bast - Queen of the Cats.

collecting stamps (much too rapidly)  and the stamps just don't stand a
chance!

I am a stamp collector,too....I recently put my Citation Stamp Album (which
is the size of an unabridged dictionary) on a stool...Mama climbs up on top
and makes her self at home...Am considering getting the kids a cat tree for
Christmas...but do they have one with 6 seats on them?

It's the light that does me in. I have a high wattage table lamp on my stamp
collecting table. She wants to come up, walk on my stamps, stroll on my
computer keyboard, and then flop underneath the Maximum Heat Table Lamp.

Wow.  I'll be the bad guy and say, take the poor thing to the humane
society so they can put it out of its misery.  For what you would spend
on vet bills you could feed a kid in Africa for 5 years.

Sort of related, I found a kitten (all my animals are foundlings) a
couple years ago and took it in.  It weight one pound and was the
cutest thing ever.  I was not familiar with feline leukemia until this
time around and that was a heck of a thing, having to put this cute
little kitten down.  Vet says the cat had a shot but would most likely
only live  acouple rough years anyway. So that was a rough week.
