hi all,
i just got a new kitten (Quid, also known as Quiddycat) whose mother
abandoned him because she ran out of milk.  he's the runt of the litter.  he
is only about 3 weeks old and we found him a week ago in the middle of the
street.  he's too young to really do anything just yet--sleeps most of the
time, eats, and goes to the bathroom.  he was eating kitten food as soon as
we got him and the vet said that the formula we were mixing with the food
was giving him diarrhea.  she also gave us some medication.  however, he's
really dirty all the time.  he goes to the bathroom, and we have to
constantly clean him because he can't really reach to clean himself.  And
his back legs seem weaker than his front ones.  Is there anything wrong with
him?  His bum is a little weird too, it almost extends out to his tail so he
has a large bald patch there.  I'm worried that something is wrong with his
tail or maybe his a.s his in a different place than it's supposed to be?  I
know this sounds strange but I'm worried about him because he's so tiny.  Is
this normal for a kitten his age?  It's too early for him to get his shots
or anything but I want to make sure he's OK.

Thanks!

He sounds normal for a kitten his age. You might want to buy KMR weaning
formula and feed him that. Otherwise, canned kitten food will do. You
will have to clean his butt until he learns to do it himself.

Even if it's a little weird?  It seems to extend out to his tail.  I'm
hoping he'll grow into it but it just looks so weird!

I hope so.  most cats have an anus, and the base of the tail is about 1/2 an
inch above it, but quid's anus is at the base of his tail.  it's really
weird....

he started using the litter box yesterday by himself.  I think it was
because i bought new litter...the one that's like sand so it's easy for him
to dig in.  he loves it!  and the good litter has helped him stop having his
diarrhea.  i'm beginning to think he was holding it all in before.

Why don't you call the vet and see what she says?  He had a recent
examination, so she may be able to give you a better opinion than we can.
