Hello,

I am a new owner of a 7 week old kitten that I have just gotten yesterday. Now I am currently not working but I am looking for work. At the same time, I'm living with the Kitten-Sitters (My parents) whom will help me.

First how old does a kitten have to be to drink water? My mother said that this kitten is not old enough yet.

Now this kitten hadn't had any shots nor was spaded yet. I was thinking about going to the vet to talk about this. I don't have much money to spend on Vet bills. But I have heard that in some States there are programs for low-income pet owners to pay for shots and neutering. I am wondering if there is such a program in Canada, particularly in Calgary, Alberta. If so, where can I find it on the web?

I hope that there is someone out there that knows. I don't want to end up with a sick kitten.

Sincerely,
Christina

It's ok to give your kitty water.

If you get a job within the next month or so...you will have plenty of money
to take kitty to the vet. If you
get your new kitty to the vet for shots and to be spayed sometime before she
is 5 months old I doubt if there
would be any problems.

As far as job hunting...just get out there and  look hard...I'm sure you
will get a job within the next 5 weeks./

Yes, Kitty is old enough for water, and soft food like canned.
I doubt you'll find any "Vet assistance" thing for vet bills,
but I just ran a quick check and thought you might want to
check this out.

If you have trouble finding a "real" job, they seem to have
temporary jobs in your area, even if it doesn't get your "Feet
in the door" you might be able to scratch up some "Kitty
Money".
Just a thought.

Your mother is wrong! Kittens and cats should have access to fresh water 24/7.

Now this kitten hadn't had any shots nor was spaded yet. I was thinking about going to the vet to talk about this. I don't have much money to spend on Vet bills.  Go to the bottom of this page and give them a call.
