Barlyn - 18 May 2006 01:33 GMT
just wanted to let everyone know barlyn is getting better. He is responding
more and more to me as the days go by. The only concern i have now is he will
not drink water. I have to put water in his food to get him to drink it. The
vet has no ideal why he is doing this. Anyone have any ideas. thanks everyone
for the concern you have shown thoughout this recovery.  Barlyn is a great
cat and he proves that  you should never give up on your pet because
sometimes they have a great will to live and need someone to just help them
through the rough times. Again thanks for all the support everyone has given
him.......Apirl

I am glad Barlyn is getting better.

If he is suffering from dehydration, ask your vet to show you how to
administer subcutaneous fluids.

The procedure is not difficult nor expensive nor dangerous if done properly.
It's not like giving a shot.  You're just sticking a needle under the loose
skin over the shoulder blades.  Which can take some determination, yes.  But
needs must when the devil drives.

Two warnings: the fluids should be body warm before administration because
even room temperature fluids will chill a cat that normally runs 100-102 deg
F.

Also make sure the pH is right for your cat.  If he twitches and squirms
when the fluids go in, the fluid isn't right.  Our Tiffany likes the 5.6 pH.
The "balanced" 7.0 pH makes her squirm.

Several feline kidney failure websites have more information.

Good luck to B!
