Barlyn went to have his staples removed today. The vet thinks he may be blind and his hearing my come and go due to fluid in his ears.With any luck that will soon clear up he is getting better but its going to be a long recovery. Thanks for all the advice. He will get depressed from being blind. Try to help him with his surroundings so he can't hurt himself. Remember that his other senses will heighten, so be gentle. Talk to him and pet him often to let him know that you are close by watching over him. Maybe try to play with him using some jingle toys, feathers and maybe some cat-nip toys to keep his spirits up. I think the best thing to do what be to have him put down. Keeping a cat alive with such horrific invalidities is both barbaric and cruel. Shame on you. Why in the world would you say that?? I have a blind cat, Duffy, and he is an absolute treasure. He is also a happy, healthy, delightful companion and can do almost anything that any other cat can do. Granted, there are *big* differences in his situation compared for Barlyn's. Most notably, Duffy has been blind from birth and therefore has never known anything else. But the idea of putting Barlyn to sleep because of lost sight or hearing is ridiculous. It's important first to see how he makes the adjustment and evaluate his circumstances after that.
