Outdoor Cat now Indoor Cat - Advice?

We have recently moved to an area where our cat can no longer safely roam
the area outside our house since we are practically next to a 4-lane road
which our cat has never in his life of 11 years had to deal with. Also
there are coyotes and racoons about that would probably give him a harder
hiding in a fight than he's ever had before.
We have therefore decided to keep him indoors, which he seems to have
adapted to without too much of a problem, but we do find that he's
extremely frustrated sometimes about getting out and having the chance to
explore the garden on his own. We are to worried he would get himself into
trouble outside on his own and we're not always there to take him out on a
leash.
Anybody have any ideas to help him get rid of some of his frustrations
indoors? We have been playing with him with all sorts of toys which have
helped.

Any other ideas would be great to try out!
Thnx in advance,
Ravelstaff

make him a grass box of his own  does not have to be that big  maybe 2' * 4'
put some cat grass in it maybe some cat nip plants   he will love you for it
in one corner put a 4 foot high  piece of ply wood wrap it in a burlap bag
and it makes a great scratch post  cost make $20 to $ 25 do this

I was just going to suggest a cat grass box... This evening, I picked up
some seeds... They're some type of cat grass oat seeds or something.  The
little pack was around $1.50, a bag of soil was about $2 and I used an old
tin from some Worther's that was sitting around collecting dust as I wasn't
in the mood to go into the basement and pull out some flower pots... I
probably used about 1/4 of the pack of the seeds and about 2 cups of soil.
Hoping the cat will like it, and if she does, then I plan to use the rest of
the pack and pick up even more seeds if need be and have them spread about
the house and put actual boxes out if I can manage to grow the grass.  Pack
said that it grows quickly and the cat will start on the grass as soon as it
starts to spout, and it also claims it's great for indoor cats to still have
a taste of outdoors.

We have also thought about the grass box and have already bought the
container and the sods with some gardening soild from the nursery.
We have been using a cardboard scratch patch from PetCo which he has been
nothing short of mad about.

Thnx for the suggestions, it sounds like we're on pretty much the right
track with him. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
:o)

What about a large outdoor cage next to where you live with a cat door to
permit access to the cage? Kitty could go outside anytime it wants but still
be safe.

Have you considered giving your cat a lobotomy?

I'm assuming that you yourself have had one?

Doubtful. There probably wasn't enough grey matter there to lobotimize.
