I have a cat named kitty, and He is two years old. He was a wild outdoor
cat when i found him as a kitten and I tamed him to where he could be
around people and not be scared. He used the bathroom outside and often
would come in and sleep and eat. He kept geting into fights so, I took him
to a vet and got him his shots and got him fixed.  I recently had to move
and I decided to bring him with me because I got so attatched to him.  I
was afraid to let him outside in a strange area so, I have decided to keep
him inside and train him on the litter box. That situation is ok but, he
constantly wants to go outside.  He jumps up at the windows at all hours
of the night and he meows at the front door. But, he doesnt do it all of
the time. I feel bad for keeping him inside but, I dont want him to get
hurt. And if I was to leave him at my old place then he would starve
because there is no one to feed him over there. I am so confused as to
what to do. He really dont eat as much as he did and he has been living in
the new house with me for about 4 weeks now. If there is anyone that can
help me with this situation, please respond. Thanks.

Would you be able to put him on a cat harness?
Ornery likes to be outside, but, I dont let my cats run loose outdoors. I
had bought a pet stroller last year, so I put him in there and secure it so
he wont get out...it is netted all around so he can still feel the air and
enjoy the scenery. I still supervise him though...we have alot of toms that
roam my yard and I wouldnt want to leave him defenseless in case the toms
got nasty.

My advice is to keep him locked-up in a box. The beauty of this method is
that it doesn't matter a f.ck whether you keep the box inside, or outside
the house, because wherever it is Kitty's inside the box. Should he become
agitated at being in the box all day, every day, then simply knock it
against the wall a couple of times, or (my favourite) roll it down the
stairs.

Advice - before you lock Kitty away in the box, mark which end of the box
will correspond to his head, and vice versa, so you'll know which end to
lower into the milk-carton at feeding time. If you forget, don't worry, as
it's 50-50 every time, and he probably won't starve, due to the law of
averages, and all that.

This has quite upset me...cats I respect but I could never be happy to (try)
and keep/own one..
I think the poster must be brave and ither try and find a new home for the
puss which has out doors access (he's only 2 so should be easy)...or let him
out and except the risks ...can you fit a cat-flap ???
...Any way be carefull ...pussy won't last long wondering around here at
Alt.games.rpg...lots of hungery nasty monsters..

It is amazing how fast some usenetizens grasp a concept and its proper
application.

In this case the concept was "belabor the obvious".

In other words:

I take mine out on a harness and tie-out but you have to stay with him if you
do this, too vulnerable to dogs and other cats tied up alone outside.  Some
people also build enclosures in their yards or on their decks - you may be
able to find info on net on how to build one of these.  Your smart not to let
him out to roam, too many dangers out there and if he ran out right now, he'd
probably try to find your old home (if you're in the same city as you were
before).  If he's not eating as much it may be due to the stress of moving
somewhere new, you could try giving him some canned if he's just used to dry
and see how that goes.

You might also want to try the simple cat on a rope technique.  Its quite simple.  You take your cat
and tie it to a rope.  Some people insist on humane placements of said rope.  If you know such
people then go for one of those.  The size and type of rope depends on the size and strength of cat
or, really, on whatever rope you have.  I've read a little about cats.  It appears they need food.
Your choice is whether to allow cat to access food.  If food is part of your program, then by all
means, make rope long enough to reach food.  If not, then, really, the sky is the limit as to what
you can do with a cat on a rope.
