Hi. We have 2 cats about 1 year old now. (both female) We feed them a
small can of Fancy Feast (they will not eat any other soft food) in
the morning and another at night. Each cat eats only 1/2 of the tin so
we feel it is not too much food for them to have 1/2 can in the
morning and another 1/2 in the evening. We also leave them 2 types of
dry food to nibble on as they wish anytime of the day or night.
(2 types since they both have different tastes. Friskies and Purina
One)

Is it correct for the cats to have dry food as they want it or should
it also be given only twice a day as the soft food, or is what we are
doing OK for them.

One cat seems a little heavier than the other but they are not fat nor
skinny. They get lots of exercise playing with us and each other and
also get some outdoor time in an enclosed yard since they are really
house pets.

Any info from experienced cat keepers would be appreciated.
Please reply here.
Thank you in advance.

It depends on the temperament of the cat. My one year old Deetoo eats only
Iams and water. Everything else, she gives it a sniff or two and walks away.
Makes for a very simple feeding schedule. Once every evening before I go to
bed, she gets a cup of Iams and that's it. I thought it was kind of strange
for a cat, but I talked to my vet about it and she said it's fine. Seems to
be working, because I think she's huge for a year old cat.
