I heard that cats are natural swimmers.  If you dropped a kitten in a
lake, he would be able to automatically swim.  In the wild, cats are
known to dive for fish.
So why do cats dislike bathing?

They don't.
They just don't like people bathing them.

so, you're saying that if I fill up my bath-tub full of water and leave
it sitting there, my cat will soon dive in to explore and take a bath?

No, that would be how people bathe.
Cats bathe by licking, or having rain fall on them
if they're lucky enough to be/go outside.

A quicker way to give kitty a bath would be just to
add a drop of liquid soap to about 2-3 gallons of water in
a pail. Then soak a wash-rag in the water and wipe
kitty for a couple minutes. Don't soak kitty too much.
Try starting with kitty's head, work back, then down.

Does it deep clean to kitty's skin or make them smell like you want
them to?
No.
But it is a lot easier, and kitty will have a better understanding
of what you're doing to her/him, and they won't fight so much.

i used to give kitty a towel baths.  i notice that the towel started to
break down and rot after a few weeks.  is it because
kitty's fur has so much acid that it breaks down towels?

It is not necessary to bathe your kitty.  They keep themselves clean very
nicely.

With any luck, when you go to look in the bathtub to see where your cat has
gone, she'll sneak up behind you, push you in and you'll drown.

Neither of my two cats dislikes water or baths.  Whenever I shower, they are
at the edge of the tub trying to get in with me.

I have been bathing them since they were kittens.

I've never bathed my cat but he will happily go out in the pouring rain and
get soaked.
