A cat picked up as a stray from wherever in July, 1988 is still around.
Eats every day, solid stool in the litter box.  Purrs like a baby and
is a certain place every time of time, including my pillow at night.
More dependable than an alarm clock.  The vet compares its condition to
most cats 8 or 9.  It may appear Hal has time to go.  My first cat,
Princess, lived from 1967 to 1982.  My second cat, Mittens, lived from
1982 to 1992.   Hal, only my third cat in 39 continuous years as a cat
owner (named after Hal Roach, who lived to be 100) continues to amaze
me with its peace of mind.  Only once in a while it will act like he
doesn't know where he's going, but it's only momentarily and still
makes the litter box.  Every other day or so, she spits of the
hairball, and that's how I know everything's fine, because it then
washes himself, so cute.

Congratulations on your senior boy.  In human years he is about 80-84!  You
must be doing something right.

don't know there; just know it keeps on ticking like no one's business.
My biggest fear is that one day i will simply find it dead; though the
vet assures me that cat's deaths are a gradual process.....

99.9% of the time, cats do die gradually, and look for
a comfortable/safe place to lie down at the end.
(Please provide a soft private place for them to go to).
.01% will just drop dead while walking at old age.

An old friend of mine had a cat "Elvis" that lived to
be 24+ years old (well over 100 years human age).
His diet consisted of 9 Lives canned food everyday.
At the time, Elvis had actually been part of his family
before my friend was born.
Elvis moved  v e r y  slowly at advanced age, but still
managed to get around to his favorite spots inside and out.

If you have a picture in digital form you should post it to
alt.binaries.pictures.animals and mention it here.
