I had just got out the bath and I could hear scrapping in the kitchen. I
knew it wasn't both of my 2 cats as one of them was curled up on the chair.
Both me and that cat ran to the kitchen to find a load of tufts of cat hair
lying all over the floor. The catflap was flapping so I went out in the
garden to find my older dominant Alpha Male sat staring at the bottom of the
garden with his fur all fluffed out not even blinking.
This other cat from down the street was sat there pleading to him. Have you
heard the way cats talk to each other? It is really quite weird and a lot
different to the way they talk to us.
Eventually the other cat trundled off with his tail between his legs and my
cat came in with his head held high all triumphant. I gave him a lot of fuss
and praised him and gave him some food for doing a great job!!!

I hope all your cats shots are up to date    Did you check the cat out for
wounds just in case
Let me guess the talking was like a murmuring of words  they sound almost
like us when they do it :-)

Not like my Cheetah then.  Her wailing scream is full of foul language.
Murmuring doesn't enter into it.

My cats do not go out, but I have heard the sounds of my stray toms going at
it...especially Morris who is a seasoned street cat...He will not back down
for nothing when another tom passes...I feel sorry for the other cats who
have to deal with him!

This next question is serious...Am wondering...last night I had two toms on
my back doorstoop. One of a new one not even a year old..I call him Contrary
because he looks like he may be the brother of our Ornery (they are both
black, same size, etc). Anyway....he was trying to mind his own business by
eating some food I had out. Mr Kitty another older, bigger cat was waiting in
the wings "patiently" for him to finish. When Contrary was finished eating,
Mr K took off after him. Now the little one did have a faster speed on
him...My question is (finally), when toms get into fights, do they call a
truce or what? I was concerned about Contrary that he would get hurt, but
more concerned about me, if I were to get in the middle of their fight.
Any thoughts on how toms may end their squabbling?
Thanks.

Depends on the cats.   Some will end the squabbling tomorrow.  Others
will last as long as the Isreali-Hamas dispute which spelled the
end of peace chances in the mid-east.

True.
If the 2 Toms are relatively equal in strength.....it can go on for
years.
But strength is the deciding factor. It's the law of the jungle.
If a Tom shows his overwhelming strength, the lesser will yield
willingly.
But when the dominate Tom gets old, younger stronger cats become the
new leaders,
and the old Tom will know this one way or the other.

That said, I'm glad I have a female. So much easier.
