Hiya, ive got an 9 month old male cat and wondered if any1 can give me
advice on something. Whenever i go into a room and shut the door behind me
Spike (my cat) sits outside the door scratching it constantly until i give
in and open the door. Im wondering wheather its an attention seeking thing
because when i let him in he does naughty things like climbing behind my
computer and getting himself wound up in all the wires. To me it seems like
he loves the attention i give him wen he gets up to no good! Has any1 ever
had this before and if so i could do with some pointers on how to deal with
it.

Thanx
Jo

sorry for laughing, your kitty is spoiled ;)
the one thing not to do is give attention/affection to a cat that has
been up to no good.

One of my cats went through a lengthy phase of waking me up at
night by batting at or licking my eyes, nose or mouth.  Two or
three times I got so fed up I took him out of my room and closed
the doors.  The scratching started almost immediately and it was
more annoying than the behaviour I was trying to avoid.
I didn't know what to do to stop my cat's behaviour and I
refused to punish him in any way so I just let it continue.  One
day he stopped waking me up and he hasn't done it since.
Hmmmm, I guess that didn't really help any.  Sorry.

I think he just wants to be near you and be able to play.  When I was a
kid I wanted to play with my toys near my mom and not in a room by
myself.  I figure pets are similar.  Perhaps if you get something or
make something for her to play with/on he will leave your computer
stuff alone.  Put some catnip on the good toys to play with and tell
him no or have a water spray bottle ready if he plays with something he
shouldn't.  When he plays with the cat gym praise him and give him a
treat.  Here are some good ideas:

I'm glad I'm not the only one who get's the "thud" on the door when I
go to the washroom.  Or the little paw doing this reach thing under the
door...  LOL
