Last night my black cat knocked over a pillar
candle while it was still burning. The candle went
out when it fell but now my cat's back has a thick
layer of wax. This cat is not one to just sit
quietly and let me get this wax off. I have found
clumps of cat hair all over the floor from where
he has tried to get this wax out himself. How can
I go about getting this wax out of my cats hair -
short of cutting it out with a pair of scissors.

Thanks in advance........

Hi Thomas,

Cutting it out with scissors seems the safest option.  Use blunt-nosed
nurses' scissors, though, to limit accidental damage.  Even this will
require a certain amount of feline cooperation/patience.  If possible, get
someone to help you hold kitty while you snip.

Other, more usual ways of removing candle wax (on textiles, for example)
require solvents or re-heating with a household iron.  These are obviously
not appropriate for cleaning kitty.

Candles and kitties are mutually exclusive.  Both should be supervised.

Good luck.
