i've never seen my cat chuck up a furball.  how do i know if he has a
furball problem?
Mike - 04 Jan 2006 17:54 GMT
Well, I'm not an expert but I can tell you how things go with Isis. Isis is
a long-haired cat. Cats groom themselves, of course. Thus they end up
swallowing their own hair. I know that with Isis once her hair gets too long
and she hasn't been given a bath she will vomit up bits of semi-digested
food that contains the hair she has swallowed. After a bath and a trim much
of the loose hair has been removed. Further, she doesn't spend nearly as
much time grooming herself. Everything calms down and she is more relaxed.

It may be that if you have a short-haired cat there never will be a problem.

i'm guessing what you have is not a cat.  Your cat
is an imposter i tell you!  All cats puke up
furballs.
NMR - 04 Jan 2006 21:10 GMT
Bry you have no idea what you are talking about I have had and currently
have cats that have never puked up a furball.  It can depends on how much of
a groomer the furball is

It can also depend upon diet. My current cat is a groomer but her diet is
high in protein and omega oils.

Bry  my problem is not with this post but the other post that you add
alt.life.sucks to the newsgroups.  It invites real trolls and a@@holes over
here.  And once they are here  it takes quite awhile for them to disappear
example  the idiot the puppy wizard

Screw around all you want with Eddie, me or anyone that will tolerate it
just PLEASE don't invite the other breed here.

if you use samspade.org you'll find that
internet service provider IP address 65.89.144.33 belongs to
MST (MICROWAVE SATELLITE TECHNOLOGIES, INC. )
1 Central Park West, NYC, NY 10023
(owner  Frank T. Matarazzo, 200 Lawlins Park, Wyckoff, New Jersey,
07481)
the ISP is
http://www.mst-online.com/
http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/product-compint-0000812157-page.html
MST does not sell internet service so its more
likely that Mr Demer is an employee of MST and
he is just using the company's ISP connection.

the above indicates the troll  is a Mac user using OS X

Trust me, if he ever has a furball problem, you will know. You will either
step on it in your bare feet on your way to the bathroom in the wee wee
hours or he will do you the honour of allowing you to witness the process.
alt4 - 05 Jan 2006 23:02 GMT
I don't think any of our cats have upchucked a hairball. We do give them a
cream and they seem to like it. Rainbow has vomited, but not hairballs.
Although that was no fun to either witness or almost walk in (I've been
lucky so far).

Hi Edie,

You really only need to worry if your cat can't eject a furball.  In this
event, Moggychops will cough, gurgle horribly and physically retch and
strain as he tries to expel the offending furball.  Sometimes a thin,
mucousy fluid spurts forth, but little or nothing else.  You will not
mistake this event if it happens!

Your cat sounds okay, but if you observe the above, try your cat on a
furball remedy or take him to the vet.  Of course, there's always the
outside chance that your cat has swallowed something it shouldn't and is
trying to dislodge the obstruction.  For this reason, it's always a good
idea to monitor your cat if it displays coughing or retching symptoms.
