We have a 7 week old kitten with an apparent infection of the third eyelid
of both eyes.

Is there any over the counter antibacterial that we could look for to buy
for this? - hopefully on New Years Day.

Poor thing has weepy eyes yesterday - but got worse quickly. Why does
everything always happen on weekends!

Thanks

For a kitten that age (or for any age really) I wouldn't touch an over the
counter product. Get to a vet *quickly* - hopefully you have an emergency
vet not too far away..?

Please don't take any risks with your baby's eyesight.  He should be seen by
a vet ASAP -- no over-the-counter medication.  My wonderful Duffy is blind.
He has been blind since birth, but I would dearly love th opportunity to
restore his vision.  That obviously isn't possible, but it makes me *very*
aware of the importance of *taking no chances* when it comes to eyesight
(and especially in one so young -- those infections can rapidly become much
worse, but they are often easily treated if caught in time).

Why post here vs. consulting a vet?
shortfuse - 02 Jan 2006 14:17 GMT
Some of us consider us as friends, some one we can ask for advice. I have a
friend who will ask me medical questions even though I am not a doctor...I
dont solicit medical advice..I do tell her she should seek medical attention
if she feels she is sick. Maybe pacyew doesnt believe this condition is
serious, if she is new at cats. Just like new mamas..Give pacyew the benefit
of the doubt.

For a small kitten like that, the vet should be the *first* port of call.

I'm not a vet either, but it sounds like the remnants of bronchitis. I know,
shouldn't it be a cough? That's just the form it takes. Our Hobbes has a
weepy eye and yes a vet should be the first place to call because it can
turn into a form of felineherpes. Check the archives of Catnips for that.
On a different note, bottom posting is extremely annoying to me. Why not
just have the message right on top?

I don't want to detract from the topic of the conversation, but if you are
genuinely interested in why top posting is frowned upon in the majority of
usenet groups, read here:

Do a Google search on "top posting" and you will find many more.
