I read an interesting story in a paper months back.  It was section
that prints stories from the various "Chicken Soup for the Soul"
series.  This one was from (I believe) Chicken Soup for the Animal
Lover's Soul (man, how many of those things do they have?)

Anyway, this story was told by a young woman who works with an animal
shelter that has this "animal rescue" type program.  Among other
things they go into neighbors with nearby business that have been
reporting strays.  They go there and, using boxes with food inside,
trap the strays (the trap doesn't hurt them, they're set up where the
animal can climb in, but not get out on their own), spay or neuter the
animla and then either put it up for adoption or release it back into
it's home turf, depending on how tame the animal is.

They do this because they know that business will only tolerate so
many stray animals roaming before they start taking matters into their
own hands.

Well, one particular area they hear a lot of stories about a male and
female cat who roaming around the place (how they found out one was
male and one female, I'm not sure...)  Anyway they set up some trap
boxes with food inside and, about an hour later, they had caught the
female cat.  She was yowling pretty loud, stratching at the box,
trying ot get out.  They put her in the back of one of the cars and
spent some more time trying to catch the male, without success.

As they were getting ready to leave, one of the workers left the back
door open of car with the box as they were putting up everything and
came back to hear MORE yowling and scratching only to discover the
MALE cat was in the car, scratching furiously at the box trying to get
the female cat out.  The fellow quickly pushed the male into the box
and had them both trapped.

The male cat had braved the car, the potential dangerous humans, the
trap all to try and rescue his woman.  Because of the this, the animal
rescuers dubbed the pair Romeo and Juilet.

Neatly enough, once they got them back at the shelter, the cats seems
calm and content.  As long as they were together, nothing seemed to
bother them.  So, after fixing them, they were adopted (together) by a
pet owner where they remain to this day.

How sweet.  :)

i have a pair of brother cats.  whenever one gets trapped in a closet
or a room, the other one sits patiently by the door until I let his
brother out.

A similar thing happened with mine...
I had shut the front door one morning, not realizing that Hobbes had crawled
in between the doors.
A good hour had gone by until I went back to the front room. The other cats
were all sitting around the door looking at it...I thought, may be some one
was at the door...so I opened it..and lo, behold! Hobbes! Unfortunately, I
had to take him to the vet because he didnt act quite right...he had a URI
and was put on antibiotics... Now I always double check my doors before I
close them!
