Weeble Update - Week 2

Magic Mood Jeep? - 06 Sep 2003 19:02 GMT
Sir Weeble Wobblybottom has both eyes fully open, and can walk on all four
legs (verses just crawl around on his belly), but is still a bit wobbly.
His appetite is still growing, from about 6cc per feeding (every 2-4 hours)
to anywhere between 12-18cc per feeding (every 2-4 hours).  And when he
decides it's time to poop - better have a LOT of tissue handy, cause he
really lets it go!  All poop is pretty consistent, texture of about
toothpaste (yeah, I know, something you probably didn't want to know).  He's
doubled in size & weight - first time we weighed him he was barely 6.5
ounces, and this morning he was 13.1!!!  And his front teeth (the tiny ones)
have come in, and his canines (fangs) are starting to poke through his gums,
sometimes he likes to chew on a finger or two after a big meal, other times
he just burps and purrs and licks his paws and then falls asleep.

Unfortunately, I don't have any new pictures of him - yet.

Thanks for the update -- please keep them coming!  We'll wait for the
pix, but we are tapping our feet whilst we wait, you know.  ;-)

Time for those pictures -- you will really regret it later if you don't get
some while he's still tiny.  And, of course, we all want to see some!

Not sure which post you missed, so here's all of them:

-------------------------posted 8/22/03
Just found 2 orphaned/abandoned kittens outside one of our basement windows
(the mother was there last night when we first discovered them, and there
were 5, but she moved 3 and hasn't come back for these 2).  I have received
some advice & supplies from my vet, but they seem to not want to eat.  One
of them had dirt caked on it's chin & neck (I think this one's a she, while
with black spots) and sounds like she(?) might have a bit of a cold
(snuffling when she breathes).  The other is a VERY robust black boy (I
think I saw boy parts on this one) that is squirming a screaming a LOT (he
has a great set of lungs), but didn't want to nurse from the bottle (maybe
the rubber nipple tastes bad?)

I believe these kittens to be under a week old, maybe only a few days as the
black one still has a bit of dried umbilical cord on him.

I plan on contacting a local pet-rescue organization (Pets Alive - they do
fosters & homing, plus have low cost spay/neuter, started by a bunch of
people that were outraged that 3 out of every 4 animals in the county
shelter were euthanized.) for any more advice and on finding a home for
them, but ANY advice I get here will be greatly appreciated!

-------------------------posted 8/23/03
Most of you have read my request for help with a pair of abandoned kittens -
and thanks for the great advice (both from NGs, my vet and a local rescue
group).  Unfortunately, one of them, the white & black one, was in very bad
condition: she was bleeding from her nose and/or mouth, so that suggested
some sort of internal injury - probably when we accidentally discovered
MommaKat & she 'exploded' from the nest, she kicked/stepped on this little
one.  Our vet thought she might go at anytime, so we had her put down, which
he did at no cost.

The black male is doing fine, has a healthy appetite (and a pair of lungs to
match), and pees when stimulated to do so. In fact, he purred (very loudly
for such a tiny kitty) for the first time today (I thought at first that the
rattling noise he was making was because some of the formula went down the
wrong way, but he wasn't having any troubles breathing, and wasn't fussing
about anything, except for a large contented burp just before), jut an hour
ago, right after I fed him (he ate 5cc of Nurtuall-C that I got from my
vet), which is his 4th meal today. I've been feeding him every 2-4 hours
(have a 4-hour alert on my PDA, or whenever he starts fussing on his own).
We've been calling him Weeble, because he wobbles when he's active (Don't
know if you remember that child's toy from the 60s/70s that was a
round-bottomed toy that was bottom heavy, their commercial went "Weebles
Wobble But They Don't Fall Down"). We think we have a forever home for him
when he's older, a co-worker of my husband's wants another black cat to go
with the one he has.  We've also gotten at least 4-5 fleas off of him with a
flea comb. We have not seen MommaKat since Thursday when we startled her.

-------------------------posted 8/24/03
Never thought I'd be excited over catpoop, but today, I am!  Weeble had his
first poop!  He fought me every second of cleaning him, and proved exactly
how powerful his lungs are!

-------------------------posted 8/25/03
Finally took a few pictures of Weeble, just uploaded them to his own photo
album on webshots.  If it doesn't show up, it usually takes a few minutes
after I upload them to show on my photo albums page.

-------------------------posted 9/1/03
It's been about a week since I posted about Weeble, the abandoned kitten
that I'm hand-raising.  He's gone from less than 6.5 ounces to almost 10,
his eyes are over 1/2 open, and his appetite has increased from 6cc per
feeding to between 13-15cc per feeding (and that's every 2-4 hours).  He's
grown in size too - he's gonna be a monster!

There are six basic items on him that seem to be in working order: Squirmer,
Squealer, Sucker, Pee-er, Pooper & Purrer...  well, I guess I need to add a
seventh:  his Sleeper is in perfect working condition!

He's already got me well trained:  to wake him is to feed him, and afterward
he likes a bit of tummy-rub and he will fall asleep purring on my chest or
stomach, and once he starts peeing or pooping, he goes at it whole
heartedly.

Since he's getting the royal treatment, I've started calling him Sir Weeble
Wobblybottom, and have posted more pics of him here:

Congratulations on your care for such a wonderful little fellow: he's
a babe!

To prolong the "aaah" factor I've opened up a similar album for my own
photogenic "boys" for anyone who'd care to have a look. Comments
welcome.

(Gasp!) Weeble is beginning to resemble a..............cat! A *little* cat!
Looks like he is beginning, also, to "love you back"......no wonder you
can't part with his Weebleness. He is irresistable.

He is adorable.....There's no way I could part with him after all you've
done for him (not to mention his cuteness).

His claws look awfully sharp....you are probably hoping he doesn't learn to
use them!!!

He looks really playful!!! It must be exciting watching something that tiny
grow up

I look forward to your updates!

Angela
