I wanna cat but i rent, and not allowed cats.
Can't buy a house yet too far in debt.  My
calculation i have to wait a good 2 years to buy a
house and get a cat.  I wanna cat so bad.  I love
cats.

you have a great point but wouldn't it be so sad
to get to know the pets and know there going to be
euthanized?   Really though it's a thought i'm
considering.  Any local shelter except volunteers?
There's only one shelter where i live a county
shelter.
No More  Retail - 07 Nov 2005 17:27 GMT
Bryan there are plenty of non killshelters out there and if it is county
controlled just call up and ask.  I volunteer and sponsor at 2 shelters
about 30 - 40 hours a week.  Most shelters including counties will gladly
welcome you.  It is great way to meet people and to know that you are doing
something right.  I have to say this I met my wife at one when the company
that I own donated time to help build the shelter

I volunteer at the local Cats Protection (UK) shelter, it is a strictly
no-kill organisation, there is only one time when we consider putting a
cat to sleep and that is when a vet advises it, such as in the case of
FeLV (Leukemia). Other than that, we will keep cats for as long as it
takes, our longest serving resident, Polly, has been with us for about 9
years..! She loves to sleep on top of the tumble dryer in the laundry room
:-)

See www.cats.org.uk for info about us.

Aww, poor Polly, why hasn't she been adopted?  I know she will have had
excellent care and love at CP, but it can't be the same as living with
a family, poor love.  You're not in London are you?  I would like to
visit her.

I got one of those also his name is Charley he has been with us for some
many years that I forgot how long he has been here.   He is blind so no one
wants him but us   the funny thing is you would never know he was blind he
has run of the office and acts just like a normal cat.  The kids that a
visit think he is great and want to take him home but the mom's and dad's
always say no.  Unknown to them when they come into the office we watch how
they act with charley and judge them from that.  We have turned away alot of
people when we see their reactions to charley

Eddie I am going to tell you this!  I know you are a troll but I am going to
feed the troll anyways.
If I was gay; which I am not, I would be the best piece of a.s you ever

Now that  I said that troll  go smoke some more catnip and leave us adults
to talk!

how about if you artificially inseminate a cat and make yourself
a mancat.  your landlord cannot forbid a mancat, can he?  there are
anti-discrimination laws.  just make sure your mancat has US
citizenship.

Re volunteering, Bryan, even if your shelter is a county one, they may well
have branches or networks of volunteers near you. These details aren't always
publicised. Otherwise, have a word with your nearest vet, he's bound to have
a string of contacts. I agree with you, this is heart-wrenching, but also
rewarding, and you'd have the contact with animals (albeit not always cuddly,
fluffy and grateful ones). All the best.
shortfuse - 07 Nov 2005 13:09 GMT
Yes, and you will get first hand information on the care of an animal...Many
people want a cat and then they decide they dont want the care of it and
abandon it...I have seen this many times in my neighborhood!

Bryan I have an idea of what you are feeling. Many years ago I wanted
tropical fish and watched many tv shows about them. So when I finally could
afford them there were no problems. Unfortunately, there are no fish
shelters, but there are ones for cats that you can volunteer in. So that's a
hands on way to learn.
