My cat has two circular bald patches under his chin. I thought it was
ringworm but after reading up on it, I'm not convinced. He is an indoor
cat and he's never had this. My other cat doesn't have it so I doubt
it's anything contageous but I could be wrong. Does anyone have a
suggestion as to what it might be?

It may be the ringworm, One of my cat had some when he was about 3
month old. But the other one who was 1 year old did get it.
I asked the doctor, he said it may be come from his mother.
Then I used some unguent, gave him cookies with more nutritious and
let him get enough sunshine.
Sorry I don't know how to say the name of the unguent, I think someone
else will do. But it's true for you to treat it as early as you can.
So ask help for the vet. :)

Our cat is 7, a tortoishell. When she was about 5 the skin near her tail
started getting sparse. We took her to the vet and it wasn't ringworm...kind
of an anolmoly. Anytime she has fleas (twice in her life) or I think anxiety
we've introduced 4 new cats it happens. It used to look like dandruff or
seboreah(sp). Now it just takes the form of a withered tail. See what the
vet says and take it from there. Who knows, it may be something as easy as
dandruff.

That it's on the chin makes me think of feline chin acne. But usually you'd
see pimples or bumps on the spots in that case.

About a year ago, my cat developed a bald spot under one of his arms.
It didn't seem to hurt and it wasn't red, so I simply cleaned it and
left it alone for a while. Eventually, fur began to grow back. But
then the same thing happened to his other arm pit. We later figured
out he was over-grooming that area. We don't know why, but he was.
The vet never figured out why either. He's fine now, but I still keep
an eye out for over-grooming. If you don't want to take your cat to
the vet, maybe you can just call him/her and ask first. He/she might
have a simple answer and it'll save you a trip. Good luck.

As you said "usually." Our Nightshade just has black discolorations.
