My pets are fine and healthy.
I've just always just wondered... how do people dispose of dead dogs
and cats?
shortfuse - 12 Oct 2005 12:49 GMT
With Weiner, we had him cremated and hes sitting in a urn on the top shelf
of our bookcase..
When Calvin died at 4 weeks, we buried him in our backyard with a grave
marker...but when our stray was ran over, we called the animal control to
pick him up...he was too far gone(flies, etc).

Hi Betty,

I have three graves in my garden for deceased cats (Tiggypuss, Shandy and
Cougar) and they are tended to keep them neat.  In each grave I have planted
'Remembrance' Crocuses.  I also intend to plant Brunnera macrophylla,
otherwise known as the Perennial Forget-me-not, between the graves.  Also,
each grave has its own stone cat statue, each different as befits it's cat.
In fact, within the paws of one statue, there is a bronze mouse: Cougar
loved mice and was a great hunter.

Oh yes, and I always talk to the cat in question whilst weeding round their
grave.

I forgot about my first cat, Go-Go...she is buried out in the back under a
flower bed...that was her favorite spot to lay while she was alive...
Calvin has a circular cement block with his name and death on it...there is
also a mimosa tree growing there too, so when it gets full grown, it will
shade him from the sun...and, yes, I talk with him when I pull weeds from
around him ,too...

I had a neighbor complain to the city about my back yard   My words to the
city when the complaint came in  was my backyard,  6 foot high fence you
can't see it unless you climb over my fence, if you did  you broke the law.
I see you in court.  That was years ago they left me alone.  The neighbor on
the other hand was pushed out by the the other neighbors people just need to
learn to if it ain't physically hurting them or someone else leave it be

I have a big back yard,  and between me and two neighbors,  we must
have buried a dozen cats there so far,  in a fifteen year period,  all
along the backside of the house,  where annual flowers get planted.
We are cat people.

FWIW:  We just lost Trixie,  two days ago (Oct 11 2005).
She is buried there,  as well.  She was 10 years old,  and died from
complications of asthma.

Trixie always loved the oudoors,  and hated being kept inside.
Here is the last good picture I got of her,  shot on Jul 04 2000, when
she was in her prime.

Purrs to you Johnny

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run
and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just
as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each
miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops
and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body
quivers. Suddenly they begin to run from the group, flying over the green
grass, their legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friends finally meet,
you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy
kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and
you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet(s), so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

always watching and Waiting.  That cool puff of air you feel, that fleeting
touch , the feeling you have that I was walking across your bed, that moment
you swear you can hear us, that flicker of movement out of the corner of
your eye.  Is just our way of saying I love you and I am with you always
even in the darkest time We Will Always Be there"***

I take it that putting the cat in the dumpster is a no no???
No More Retail - 13 Oct 2005 16:01 GMT
If caught   your city county or state could charge you with animal abuse
unless you can prove how the cat died.  Most of the animal control or
garbage pick units  will pick up if you call them at no cost
betty humperdink - 13 Oct 2005 23:31 GMT
We recently moved to Manhattan.  There are no back yards.  There must
be thousands of
pets in our neighborhood, since almost every apartment has a cat or
dog.  We have never seen animal control coming around to pick up
bodies.  The only thing we can figure is that people toss their pets
down the garbage chutte of their highrise apts along with the kitty
litter.

Betty
p.s. Our pets are perfectly healthy and will be for many years (knock
on wood), so I am asking just out of curiosity about disposal.

You won't you have to all them and let them know what is going on.  They
show it on animal cops all the time

Well we had a choice, the vet had Calvin in a bodybag and would put him in a
dumpster if we didn't take him. The same with Weiner, we formed too much of
a bond in that short time. Besides they're good for the backyard, jk :)

I agree---I think having them buried nearby --keeps their spirit near.
Dumpster is NEVER an option for a loved being.

a) you dispose of your fingernails in the dumpster, don't you?  so
what's wong with the dumpster?

b) why do cats like to take a dump on the livingroom floor once every
blue moon?

Well, they are good fertilizer. I've buried two cats in the yard, one under
an existing pine tree, for the other I planted a spruce tree next to her
when I buried her. That spruce tree is now taller than another spruce
planted two years earlier.

If I couldn't bury them, I'd have to have them cremated. Tossing them in
the trash just isn't an option.

Plus putting them in trash MAY be against the law.

When I had to put my oldest cat to sleep I let the vet place it at a
local pet cemetary.   Around here it is illegal to bury the pet
in your backyard.   (Don't blame me, I didn't make the law.)
