Are cats really more intelligent than dogs?  My cat's don't seem to be
smart enough
to open a cupboard with food hidden inside, or to work a doorknob.

Why when they got you to do the job for them

They don't need to, they have you to do it for them..!

Why work when you can marry a millionaire ;-)

Who was the smart one again..?!

Opening doorknobs was something we wondered about. It kept opening "by
itself?" So she asked Nightshade how he opened it. It was a lever doorknob
and all he had to do was jump up and pull down on his way back to the
ground. We're lucky with the cupboard thing, the magnets hold it pretty
well. It used to be in a closet, then they would get the door open and bite
the bag open.
The only thing they can't do so far is open wet food-a can and no thumbs to
operate the can opener. It's probably a matter of time. :-)

I used to have a Chocolate-Mitted-Ragdoll that not only knew the
function of a doorknob (although she didn't have much luck using them),
but would open doors if they weren't completely closed, turn light
switches on and off and talk to me as if I understood what she was
saying. She would ride with me in the car looking out the window just
like a dog, and let me know if she had to jump out to use the
bathroom.....then jump back in again!
Smartest, prettist, friendlist cat that ever owned me......people
offered me money to serve her !!!

Shoot all my cats know how to open interior doors here. They know how to
open the cabinets and only really try to open the one that has there food in
it. I installed magnetic latches and fowled their attempts. If they get into
the cabinet were the food is, while I have it open to feed them, they try to
mouth open the plastic containers to steal a snack while I'm serving
breakfast. They are a sweet pride. I have three indoor only cats and 2
fosters.

The two fosters have been eating canned cat food mixed with two cups of dry
with two cans of water. I want to make sure they are plenty hydrated. They
eat everything and are full all day.

your cats must be fat.  i leave only dry food out for my 2 indoor cats,

since I heard that canned food rots their teeth.  despite
the all you can eat buffett, they only eat about 1 cup of dry food per
day each per day.

Why would you assume my cats are fat? I never said what or how much I feed
them. I only stated what I'm feeding my foster cats. You should read about
all
canned cat foods before going off what you hear. I personally do not like
canned cat
food, but it encourages young and old finicky cats to eat and if water is
added it helps them to drink more if you have a  UTI prone cat. My perminant
cats do not eat canned cat food regularyly they like their dry.

I do have 1 over weight cat and the vets can not figure out why he is other
than a neuter. He's on a diet and never looses or gains he is 15 pounds and
3 years old. The second is a 7 year old spayed female tortie that is skinny
and 12 pounds of muscle (you can feel but not see her bones). The last is an
8 pounds 1 year old spayed female tortie (you can feel but not see her
bones). All checked out regularly and all butt 1 is over weight.
So I feed my cats 1/3 of a cup each of dry cat food daily.

The 2 fosters are 5 and 6 months old and still growing and do not have an
ounce of fat on their little frames. So you take 1 1/2 cups for each foster
a day
and you think that is too much and they are fat. ok.
