Had I not witnessed it, I wouldn't have believed it.
Over at friends' house last weekend and while we were outside in the
backyard, their cat fell into their pool.
He fell into the nine foot deep end. None of us actually saw him fall in,
but after hearing the splash everyone saw that he was at least two feet (or
more) from the edge of the pool. There was no question that he was fully
in, and not just on the gutter. We assumed he was probably just walking
along the edge of the pool, slipped, and fell in clumsly.
In a blur of fur of water, that everyone saw, he got out as quickly as fell
in. Knowing he was safe, we laughed at him, and my friend called him an
idiot. The cat ignored his comment and began licking his paw, probably more
to shirk off embarrassment than anything else. His wife then goes over to
get the cat, so she can take him and dry him off before he gets a chance to
dirty himself up.
Well, cats falling into pools, getting out on their own, or even swimming
isn't all that amazing.
What was amazing was that only his legs, and only just past the "elbows",
were wet!
Looks like that cats don't just think they can walk on water -- they really
can.

Thanks. Yeah, except for maybe a damaged ego, he was fine.
I wish it was caught on video. I'm guessing that maybe he violently flexed,
twisted, or something while "in flight" to change his "trajectory".
I'll never know, so just marking this one as another "cat mystery". :^)

Fugazi (RB) as a kitten once made the mistake of leaping into a full
bath...And I swear as she looked down and saw where she was going to
land she managed to reverse in mid-air! I wish I'd had a camera handy.
She didn't touch the water she just flipped back a little and landed on
the floor

Reminds me of my cat from twenty years ago, only he wasn't dry when he got
out of the tub. I remember his leaping into the bathtub and hearing his
audible "ERK!" just before he hit the water. Funniest cat sound I've ever
heard.
