Cat crying/stepping in poop

We have had our kitten for 3 weeks and she cries every time she goes to the
bathroom. She also has been stepping in her feces everytime she goes.
What can I do?

Yes, vet and clean her litter box each time you know she has used it until you find out
what the problem is so she does not step in it.

She steps in it right after she goes while covering it up. It's become a
major problem especially because she goes into panic mode when we try to
clean her paws. We clean her liter box after each use unless we're not
home.

How old is she? It sounds like she wants her mother still. MLB
