Our cats have fleas. No biggee there. It looks like the oldest may not see
her next birthday. The vet gave her a shot and pills, if anyone has
asurefire way to get cats to take pills, I'd love to hear it. What I really
wanted was, I don't drive, so until my wife picks up some Frontline, is
there any home remedy. That's just to keep things at least status quo. It
happened once before and I seem to remember mint ice cream, but it sounds
weird.
Thanks in advance,

Red meat is not bad for you, that fuzzy
green meat, the kind with maggots is.

They make a pill pouch now for the firballs that you can hid the pill in
if not put the cat between your legs they back up when they try to get
away hold that neck open that jaw and put the pill down to the back of the
throat if they try to gag it up blow in their nose I mean this will all
love and care not to be mean it looks worse than it sounds Some times you
have to take the bull by the horns. You can't hide a pill in wet food they
will eat around it or worse eat it than give you a clean up jaw
I have a epileptic cat that takes 2 diazepam pills twice a day I have to
grab him hold him open the jaw and place the pill at the back of the throat
to make him swallow I close the jaw and massage his throat and give him
some lovin' cause I feel so guilty about doing this but it has to be done
I give him a treat afterwards
Frontline I have found about the cheapest price here free shipping

Now home remedy are you talking about on the cat or for the home it self
the cat get some brewer's yeast (not bakers' yeast this can kill your cat )
half a teaspoon a day divide in half so a 1/4 teaspoon for their 2 meals a
day mixed in with their food or sprinkled on top of dry food and some
people like to use garlic powder about a pinch in wet food
home remedy take a water pall a few drops of dawn detergent and put it
under a night light good by fleas to prevent fleas from coming in your
house Borax dry laundry detergent spread around the outside perimeter of
your house and yard or euelipitic leaves ground up and spread out good bug
repellent also

Hi alt4,
Popping pills to the back of a cats throat is,
for me, an exercise in futility-- holding the cat,
holding the pill, trying to get it's uncooperative
mouth open, then missing the target and the
cat spits it out... aarg... I bow to folks who
manage to do it, though... :)
In any case, my vet gave me this cool tool
called a "pill popper". It's a stick-like thingie
that holds the pill in one end, and has a
push-button-like extrusion on the other. It
works great. Put the pill in the holder part,
open its mouth, stick the holder end fully in
towards the back of its mouth, push the
plunger, and presto! Mission accomplished
with hardly a fuss.
Hope this helps...

Don't know about mint ice cream (I'd eat it before I gave it to the cat! But my
cousin has indoor/outdoor cats and she sprinkles lavender oil on their blankets.
Apparently the fleas don't like it. She also adds brewer's yeast or garlic to
their pet food and says that really works.
I've also heard (but never tried) garlic as a flea repellent.
Good luck.

Considering that fleas suck blood, they are vampire fleas.

Heh, I like the idea of flocks of fleas with slicked back hair, wearing
dodgy capes, declaring on landing: "I have come to drink your blood".

Try "Pill Pockets"-- just search on that name to find the cheapest price for
mail order. Not all cats like it but if it works it is so much easier to
give them a pill
