They are shredding the carpet by both exit doors and for some reason my
bedroom door. I have lived in the apt since May. Before I lived in a
house and then (not by choice) a trailer. The son of Satan at the house
lived in a trailer on my property with my son and found a way to get in
and out on his own. My cat Charlie showed up at my door at my house two
years ago and til Oct he was totally an inside cat and is now again... I
don't think he is the problem tho. Then in Oct at the "trailer" another
cat showed up and I took it in cause it was a kitten and starving. since
the time at the trailer and until we moved (my grown son) and I to an apt
they were sorta indoor outdoor cats. They even went to the door when they
needed to go out. I hope I wasn't to rude, but I'm at my wits end. I'm
very very fond of two of the three cats, the other one is my sons ( which
is truly the son of satan) but I wouldn't want to see anything bad happen
to him... I'm a good house keeper and cannot stand what is happening. I'm
actually trying to find a good foster home, but my son will have a fit!!!!
But I'm single, working, and can't afford to pay for damages and don't
want my house stinking! How can I spray my bathtub with that stuff????
If it is a teritorial thing what do I do????

Then spray the entrance to the bathroom.

Hi colleentib,
They are shredding the rug by the exits simply
to get out (or in, in the case of the bedroom).
They may get over it. In the meantime try
putting some of those cheap rubber-backed
carpet squares over the affected area. That
should help. If you can catch them in the act,
the squirt bottle works wonders...
Assuming they're all in good health, a cat will
poop outside the box most likely because it's
upset at the change in it's environment.
It's a big hassle, indeed, but I found putting the
tray in the bathtub (taking it out to take a bath,
of course) solved the problem-- it took only a
couple of week or so of this, before I could
move the tray back to its normal place
permanently (leave it in the tub for a week, then
move it and see what happens-- repeat this as
long as is necessary).
Be sure to give them extra affection for a while,
at least until they get used to the new house...
