Hello :-)
I would like to know what to make of my cat who swishes his tail a lot...
This cat lives in my house since last november, he is a big 3 years old red
& white cat.
I heard he had a sad childhood, he maybe was beatten, and ended up in a cats
refuge, where he was not happy despite the good owner's efforts.
He then was adopted by a friend of mine, but couldn't get along with his
other little she-cat, so now he stays at my place.
He is the only cat of the house, and we like him very much and make him a
very good life.
He can go outside when he wants in the garden & the neighborood, he seems to
be enjoying himself.
But I can't help but notice that he swishes his tail a lot, and I associate
this swishing with frustration, or another negative feeling.
I wonder if I can do something to soothe him, or if you have tail swishing
cats that are balanced & happy ?
I may add that this cat doesn't like to be petted a lot, which we respect.
At times, he has petting sprees, where he can't get enough petting, this is
usually early in the morning, when we are asleep and he wakes us up for
hugs.
Well, that's about it. I anyway have the feeling this cat is having a good
time here, where he is safe and loved :-)

Tail swishing is just doing what comes naturally. It sounds like you have
a nice cat. MLB

*Really violent* tail swishing usually indicates anger, i.e. something has
*really* pissed him off..! Just "normal speed" is ok, my Missy's tail
seems to have a life of its own sometimes, even when she's apparently fast
asleep it's waving about..! I think it comes off and slithers about by
itself like a snake in the middle of the night when nobody is watching <g>
Good luck with your furball :-)

Mine swishes tail when she is excited or happy, so don't think it
necessarily means frustration. Unless you have another indication of
anxiety or unhappiness, I'd say relax.

I've heard that tail swishing occurs when the cat is pondering a situation.
"Should I stay here and be pet, or run frantically into the other room for
no apparent reason?".... decisions decisions

A cat is a Cat just like a woman don't try to figure them out just go with
the flow either that or start pulling your hair out now
I have a firball the same way when she wants to be held and petted she will
jump in your lap till than look out for the claws and teeth

Thanks to everybody for your feedback :-)
I am not really worried, I have the feeling the cat is happy here, I was
just wondering if you had this happen too !
Besides the tail swishing, the cat shows every sign of trust.
He his a little crazy, as most 3 year old cats LOL
He love to play, and his tail has a life of its own just like yours !
Thanks again :-))))
