Does anybody in the US know of any organized pet rescue efforts in those devastated areas? Of course the main thrust has to be getting the human refugees to safety, but surely there are at least some surviving pets. All of us who can afford to really must donate to the Red Cross, but I wish there were also a way to help the animals... There is.... The Lousiana SPCA and others from Houston,etc are on the ground doing what they can to rescue strays and ship them to Houston. Go to the Houston SPCA website: http://www.houstonspca.org to donate via their website and make a notation that the donation is specifically for those rescue efforts on the ground in the devastated areas. Petsmart Charities is supporting the hurricane relief according to their web- site. All you have to do is go to a local Petsmart and pick up postage prepaid envelopes to send in used printer ink cartridges. Each used cartridge raises $2. Not bad for something we usually throw away!!! If any one works in a large office think about the money that is just going in the trash. My heart goes out to all of the animals that are going to be the last to be saved. I wish I was a filthy rich and could save them all, for now spreading the word about this fund raising opportunity will have to do.
