Message from Dr. Bruce LeGallais
My name is Dr. Bruce LeGallais. I am a veterinarian working in a small
animal practice in Central Vermont. A client of mine, 4 or 5 years ago,
attempted to become an exotic cat breeder (specifically Bengals and
Abyssinians). Unfortunately she has bred a great number of cats but was
unable to part with any of the litters. As a consequence she has become
a hoarder and potentially has 100 to 150 cats in her house. Although
this woman is very nice she obviously has some problems and is finally
seeking some medical treatment. Therefore she can no longer care for
her cats. The humane societies in Vermont are at full capacity at this
time and no one can seem to help out with this problem.
I am volunteering my time and resources to help find her cats homes. If
not, they will all have to be euthanized. I personally will be going
into the house to select out the healthy individuals and make sure they
are up to date on their vaccines.
This is a very unfortunate situation but hopefully with some good will
some of these cats can be adopted out to good and loving homes. The
house they are currently living in has been condemned by the Dept. of
Health.
In conclusion, I am seeking help in finding an alternative to
euthanizing young, healthy cats of an unfortunate circumstance. If
anyone is interested or can help me find homes please e-mail me back at
catamnt662@adelphia.net
Thank-you for your time and consideration,
Dr. Bruce

I'd love to help, however I'm in Ohio and my wife and I are feeding the
local strays along with our 6. An idea though, what about Cause For Paws?
Cats or dogs are taught to be an aid to a disabled individual and if he or
she is smart does the same for the cat. It might be a local program, I'm not
sure of that. It's some help though.

Contact the HSUS and the ASPCA.
In these situations, local animal control agencies usually take control - no
matter
how full the local shelters are, they're the ones that get the animals if
there's any
kind of lawsuit going up against this woman. Contact them as well and offer
your
services if you haven't already. Contact local vets and shelters in the
surrounding area (even nearby states)- even if they can only take 2 cats
each, that's something. They can also contact any breed rescues within their
respective states, or the shelters can look into their own foster families.
Check with your clients - would any of them be willing to house some of
these cats temporarily?

Around here cat shelters won't take them. They will contact
one of the local zoos, the states department of animal
control, or some other state agency. They will also contact
local law enforcement officials since around here they are
illegal to own. A number of people have been arrested for
owning them.

Around you can't adopt them legally, so they may still be
Where the property has been condemned you can bet the rent
the cats will be put to sleep,

Since when are Bengals, Abyssinians or even Ocicats illegal?
They are CFA standard breeds.

Tax Me To Death - 07 Aug 2005 20:24 GMT
All your suggestions have already been done.
Barrnabas Collins - 07 Aug 2005 02:29 GMT
So lets see if i have this right, this person who calls thesmelves
"Tax Me To Death" wants to tax us to death to pay for this
person who has ilelgal cats.
Around here a person was arrested when they had
a number of illegal bengal cats in an apartment building.
Someone got attacked by the bengal, got injured, the
authorities were alerted, the bengals were removed
and the person was arrested after hospitalization.
Around here exotic cats like these are illegal.

I suggest you know what you are talking about before you post your
nonsense. Obviously you don't know squat about felines.
These are DOMESTIC breeds. Look the breeds up on the internet and do
some research before you start babbling about a subject you know
nothing about.
I wish all veterinarians were as kind as Dr. LeGallais and for you to
bash this Dr. and accuse him of doing something illegal is appalling.

Either you are incapable of reading a post correctly or you are
reading a post other than the one originally posted by Eastwood Animal
Clinic.(above)....
The Doctor needs help in finding homes for these cats..not someone
trying to obstruct the process.

Hey Barney Collins-
Maybe a better reading of the original post and some research on your part
would have been wise.
Time to go back to Dark Shadows and stop posting your B.S.

The Bengal Cat is not the same as a Bengal Tiger. You would NOT put a
Bengal Cat in a Zoo,and I doubt one would attack anybody. They are no
larger than domestic Cats.
And no,they are not "taxing" you....they need HOMES for these
Cats...not your money.
I wish the good Doctor luck...I hope at least some of these exotic
Cats (the Bengals are beautiful) find homes.
By the way,for those of you that may be wondering,Eastwood Animal
Clinic and Dr.Bruce LeGallais are legitimate..
I hope some of you in that area can help.

Have you considered contacting your local and nearby Newspapers
regarding this situation? Sort of like a "Special Interest" story.
I have seen Houston Newspapers and TV stations run a piece sometimes
involving animal shelters that were overcrowded, etc in an effort
to help adoption efforts. Or to get adopted animals who's owner had
died,etc...It would be worth a try??
I recently watched where they had hundreds of people wanting to give a
home to a stray Mama cat that firefighters found after she had
REPEATEDLY re-entered a burning building to bring her kittens out to
safety...one-at-a-time...and suffering burns to herself in the
process.
People cannot adopt these cats if they don't know about them..
