Found a stray kitty

I was on my out to my car and found a stray cat lurking near the porch.
A nice, yellow, timid cat that let me pet it and rubbed up against my
legs.  I thought maybe it was one of the neighbors' cats, since I saw a
yellow cat over there once, but as I was petting it I noticed that it
felt pretty thin, so I guess it's just a stray that still likes people.

So I went back inside to look for some leftovers or something, and
realized that I have no food.  Not even for myself.  Guess it's time for
a grocery run...  So I went back to the porch, and patted the kitty on
his (her?) head, and when it turned its head to rub its cheek on my hand
I sprayed it in the face with dog repellent.  Then it hissed and took
off running.  I hope it finds a new home some day, because it was a nice
little cat.

I thought it was excessive for an innocent little kitten, the guy's probably
just trolling.  But I did pepperspray a stray cat once, this mean, homely
cat that was always in my yard and fighting with my cat.  One day I managed
to sneak up on him and peppersprayed him and my aim was off and some of it
blew in my face!  Another time he was drinking out of my hot tub and I had
music playing and he didn't hear me and I kicked him into it.  Neither
worked, he just kept coming back.

I didn't hurt it at all, the pepperspray was completely harmless as was the
pool.  I was pissed because the cat hurt my cat.  If I wanted to hurt him I
could have easily killed him but I didn't, I just wanted him to stay out of
my yard.

If you think it didn't hurt, give it a good try on yourself -- then go
drown in the pool.   MLB

The jerk probably posted that to get a rise out of people like me and I
fell for it. Shame on me.

I saw the same kitty out there again tonight.  But instead of lurking
near the porch, it was sauntering toward a dumpster near the apartment
complex next door.  That's probably a good place for it to find
something to eat, judging from the smells that emanate from the dumpster
sometimes.  I wondered if the cat knew that raccoons also like to forage
for food in there.  So I watched and waited.

The little cat hopped up onto a discarded table, and from there hopped
up and balanced itself on the edge of an opening in the side.  After
pausing for a minute, it disappeared inside.  Then there was a rustling
sound and muffled hissing sounds, and the cat shot out the side of the
dumpster like a bullet, hit the ground running, and dashed off to hide
under a distant car.  At the same time, a HUGE slow moving coon appeared
in the dumpster's opening and just sort of looked around.  I guess the
kitty cat will have to look elsewhere for nourishment.

I don't know, we had raccoons in our attic and the cats would go up there.
Before they were humanely trapped and let loose in the wild, the raccoons
were deathly afraid of them. Possums I can see being a threat to cats, at
least house cats and not cougars.

Was reading some thing about not feeding strays, but taking them to your
local animal shelter/or vet if you werent going to bring them in the house
as yours. What if the cats wont let you pick them up! btw...two of the cats
I "take care of" on the outside had owners. But they moved and left them
behind! So the neighbors are now "in charge" of them.
In the winter time another neighbor brings one of them in his house. I
supply cat carriers that I put blankets in and make sure they are out of any
direct drafts.

Many shelters and vet offices offer free bulletin boards. You can post
pictures and descriptions of personality to see if you can find them
permanent homes.

You're a Merrykun aren't ya !

Amazingly, you did exactly the right thing.

"So called" cat lovers will amaze you with their responses, but then
very few people actually know what cats are all about. If you truly hope
it finds a new home some day, then I salute you.
