Hi everyone. I'm new here. My name is Nikki and I'm from Nova Scotia,
Canada. I have 2 cats. A 10 year old boy, Willie. And a 4 year old girl,
Cujo. They are both indoor cats and they are my babies. One question I have
is, this past Wednesday, I took Willie to the vet and he ended up staying
all day and getting 3 teeth out and complete dentistry done on the rest of
them. But when I brought him home Cujo went nuts. Hissing and growling at
Willie. She has never done anything like that before. I am wondering if it
is because of the scent Willie brought home from the vet? Has anyone ever
experienced anything like this? Please tell me it will stop and Cujo will be
back to normal soon?
Thanks,
Nikki

Willie may have picked up the scent of other animals.
I'm sure things will all settle down within a day or so.
Doubt there's anything to worry about.

Hi, Nikki. Where in NS? Don't worry about Cujo, she will settle down. As
you've guessed, it's the smell. It probably is a mixture of other animals'
pheromones and chemicals from the dental procedure and the general smell of
the office -- not at all like the "Willie smell" she's used to. When he
quits smelling funny, she'll quit freaking. My cats, (in the days when I
had more than one) always hissed at the one who'd been to the vet.

Hi everyone, thanks for your help. Cujo is starting to come around. Which is
such a relief. :) Diana, I am in Dartmouth. Are you here? Or know someone
from here?
Thanks again all.

Glad she's getting over it. Now, when it's Cujo's turn to go to the vet,
Willie will hiss at her when she comes home!
No, I'm not from there, I live in Florida. I do visit when I get the
chance, though. Had dinner and a couple of Keith's at the Split Crow across
the harbor from you not long ago, as a matter of fact. (We thought we were
getting away from the heat, but no such luck -- it was like 30, and almost
as humid as here!) I just really like the Maritime provinces. Next time
I'm up there, I'll probably go to PEI, just because I've never been.

Cats identify other cata by smell. As far as they are concerned you
brought in a brand new cat. It will eventually recognize it as the
old cat when the old smell returns.
