Hi, it's me again...the guy whose indoor-only cat "Albert" ran away
exactly one week ago. I haven't seen Albert since then.
But here is something strange, and I want to get some opinions on it...
I have another cat that is an indoor/outdoor cat. His name is Del. This
cat is usually VERY good about staying in the immediate area of my
house. He sticks to us like glue, and he has always gotten along with
Albert very well.
I do not let Del stay out during the night. When it's time for us all
to go to bed, I only have to whistle once or maybe twice and Del comes
running up to me and goes straight into the house for the night.
Since Albert has been gone, I have been unable to find Del on two
different nights. I whistle and call, and he is nowhere to be found.
When we wake up in the morning, Del is right back in our yard like
nothing happened.
It is now 10:30 pm where I am, and I have just tried to find Del. For
the third time since Albert left, Del has not come when I call him and
he is nowhere around.
I now have three burning questions:
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT DEL KNOWS WHERE ALBERT IS?
IS IT POSSIBLE THAT DEL HAS BEEN VISITING ALBERT?
COULD DEL POSSIBLY BE THE KEY THAT MAKES ALBERT COME BACK?
What do you all think?

Anything's possible, but here's a thought, if it is hot where you are Del
may be doing what my cats do. Lounge around all day when it is hot then run
around hunting and being a cat(s) at night when it is cooler. It can get to
be 95 here during the day and drop to 45 at night. Let's hope Albert comes
back. Not knowing what has happened must drive one bananas.

Gary:
Yes, it is VERY hot where I am, and Del is a hunter, but he still NEVER
fails to come to me when I whistle for him at night. I know I sound
biased, but he is the perfect outdoor cat who NEVER roams too far and
is very obedient.
So it has raised my curiosity that on two different occasions (one of
them being a rainy night, which he HATES to travel in) he has done this
disappearing act.

How old is Del? My cat was 1½ yrs old and would do the same ( come in when
called) now this summer, at 2½ she ignores me when she wants to stay out.
She does come in at night if it has been cooler during the day though. Of
course, I live in a national forest and they stay within a short distance of
the house. I know it would drive me nuts if one of them disappeared
suddenly. Sometimes if a storm rolls in they will find shelter and no amount
of calling will make them leave that shelter. When they do decide to make a
break for home, they are amazingly dry. I found one of their shelters, it is
under in the racks of firewood with the tarp over it. You don't sound
biased, you know your cats better than any of us do. Let's hope Albert comes
home soon.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm not sure how old Del is, because,
ironically, he left his former owners and "adopted" a little over 2
years ago. He is a young cat, though. A safe assumption is that he
appears to be less than 4 years old or maybe even less than 3 years old.

Did you place signs out for your missing cat?
Did you run and add in the local paper?
If not you need to. He may have found the place your runaway cat is being
kept by someone who thinks he was abandoned. They could end up with both
cats.

Thanks, you make a very good point!
I have placed many signs all over the area where my cat was lost. I
have also handed out a flyer with a photo of my cat to each and every
house on my block and the block next to mine.
The ad in the paper should be out any day now.
Thanks again for your suggestions. I need all the help I can get!

Mayber your kitty is searching for his lost friend? We had a cat that
behaved like this when I was growing up. Three days after Sneakers
vanished, Joker started staying outside longer. On the sixth day,
Joker dragged Sneakers up to the front porch. Poor Sneakers had a run
in with what the Vet thought may hav been a coyote, and his leg had
been broken. Joker searched for and found him, and dragged him back
home that last night.

When your cats do decide to come home, maybe you may want to keep them in.
When I was growing up I had a couple cats. My parents would not allow them
to be indoor cats 24/7. I worried constantly about them. One did get run
over right outside my house, the other 3 ran off and never returned. I did
have Lyra for 18 yrs. Now I am married and am the proud owner of 6 felines.
I admit the house may not be immaculate, but at least my "kids" are indoors
24/7 (unless I carry one out and hold it) and I dont have to be looking out
the window wondering where and if they are ok.
