Sabrina Update

Sabrina is staying at the vets for the weekend but they are making
arrangements for me to pick her up tomorrow evening (Monday - Labor Day).
We went to spend some time with her yesterday, that seemed to calm her down
a bit and when we left she was purring.

Yesterday's update was that she wasn't eating much, but was getting better
about sitting up, but freaks out when she tries to walk.  (she just doesn't
have the balance with all that weight).   She had used the litter pan to
pee, but hadn't pooped yet (probably because of lack of food from fasting
and not eathing.   They said they were going to move her to a larger cage so
she wasn't so confined so she would have room to move around and get
adjusted to the missing leg.   They also said that they didn't give her the
pain meds on Saturday morning as she did not show signs of pain.  (where as
Friday morning they were still pushing the pain meds)

She looks just so weird.   They shaved from the left side of her belly to
the spine of her back - all across the belly and arm area and from her neck
down to her rear legs.   When the vet's assistent appologized for going a
little "crazy" w/ the razor.   Her incisiion is oozing a bit.  Another
reason they wanted to keep her longer.   But it wasn't as bad as I thought
it would be.

She struggles with trying to walk, really struggles.   When the vet called
me today (Sunday) to give me an update she said they had moved her back to
the smaller cage to confine her more.   She seems like she is really
freaking out when she tries to move around and does not have the balance yet
on the leg so she gets scared when she tries to walk.    She is eating
better.   I suggested yesterday that they feed her dry food - and that did
the trick, she's eating much better.  (silly cat hates wet food, and that's
what the vet was trying to feed her).

That's the latest.   Ya know - we have the crate for the dog (which is a
large 24 X 36 " crate) I may set it up for the cat for a while.   That just
means figuring out what to do with the dog while we are at work.   The dog
is only in the crate when we are away from the house for long periods of
time (all day at work).   She'd probably do fine out of it, or I might be
able to confine the dog to the laundry room for a week while we leave the
cat in the crate to confine her until she adjust better.   (I'm just
brainstorming a bit here).   I don't know - guess we'll figure it all out
tomorrow.

At least now I only have 24 hrs left to be without my baby.   I want her
home, cuddling up on my bed and resting peacfully.

My best wishes for you and many soothing pets for Sabrina.  However, I
expect it may be a while before she rests peacefully.  This must
really be traumatic for her.   I think the laundry room for the dog
would work out best.  I am sure the dog would really like it too.
Again, best wishes.   MLB

I'm very glad to hear that. :)  Of course, it must be very traumatic,
especially because she wasn't expecting it (it still breaks my heart that we
can't explain these things to our furkids!), but given time, and lots of
love, I'm sure she'll adjust.  She'll be a lot happier back home with you,
that's for certain!  I'm glad to hear she's not been in too much pain, and
that, once you clued them in to her preference, she's been eating again.
She sounds like a real trooper, I'm sure she'll come through this all given
a bit of time for sulking and acceptance. :)

Hugs and Warm Thoughts,
Ann

jayjay this is Jean again, thanks for the update, I'mglad Sabrina has come
through her op;
and seems to be doing well, I'm sure she will eventually get used to walking
on three legs.
at the same time I am somewhat worried about your dog,is he really kept in a
cage every
day while you go to work? maybe he's a *very* small dog, I hope? I had a
black labrador
who used to destroy everything he could  including six sofa cushions who's
insides were
scattered all over the lounge and dining room one day when I got home, so we
had to shut
him in the hall and close all the bedroom doors till he got a bit wiser and
bigger, he tore the hall
carpet up! when we decided toleave him in the lounge again he eventually
went through
two lounges [sofa's]  in the ten and a half yrs we had him hugs for Sabrina
