My mums cat keeps peeing all over the place, not loads, just like a little
spray, and as you can guess it's getting on her nerves,
Any advice as to why he's doing it? Or how to stop it
Thank y ou :-)

Hi supagirl
I presume that your mum's cat is an unsterilized male cat? This is normal
behaviour for an unsterilized male cat...... it is known as "marking the
territory". Most felines mark their territory in this way...... you can see
the tigers, lions, cheetahs etc. in the wild doing it as well!
Apart from smelling horrible, it's not really very hygienic if your cat is
"marking" inside the house. One way that you can stop this is by having the
cat sterilized.
Sterilization is highly recommended for all pet cats....male or female.
They tend not to stray as much, they don't get involved as often in fights
with other cats, and generally remain much healthier and happier, and become
a much more loving, stay-at-home type pet.
See if you can convince your mum to take the cat to the vet and have him
sterilized. It is only a very small operation for a male cat.... and the
many cats that I have seen that have been sterilized seem to only benefit
from the operation.
Write again if you need any further advice.
Cheers!

If he's been neutered, his peeing could be as the result of a medical
problem. I'd consult with a vet.

1st thoughts is that this is normal intact male behavior (in which case
neutering him will 99.9% of the time solve that behavioral issue), or if
already neutered it may indicate a urinary tract infections (AKA UTI or
FLUTD) which require a trip to the vet, who'll probably ask you to catch
some urine if you can and bring it with you. The sooner the better as cures
start with cheap stuff like change of diet and antibiotics but with time can
involve unblocking and surgeries.
Could be behavioral if not medical. Which would pose many many questions
like, where did he come from? how old is he? Were there other intact males
he could have learned this behavior from? How long has he been in this
house? Is he new here or is there another new animal or person he could be
showing distaste for?
the list goes on and on.
Go to your vet first for neutering surgery (very quick - outpatient stuff)
and/or diagnostics, then think about the other questions if problem does not
resolve.
