Hello
I am new here and I need some help if anyone can help.   This is all new
to me.  All my life I have had dog's now I have a cat well 2 of them.
The smaller cat I have no problem with she has short hair.  Now the one
I need help with  She is a long haired Calico She is very big vet say's
she is just a BIG cat she weighs 18.5 pounds  not over weight vet thinks
that she may be a
maincoon calico cause of her size.
My question is how do you keep there back end cleaned?  I keep her
brushed every day but around her butt she mats up and I can't stand to
be around her sue to the smell.  I give her a bath and a few days later
there is that smell
Can some one please help me what do I do?

You need to trim the hair around her tooshie!  Because of her size, it might
be hard for her to get back there.  Also, I would ask your vet about what
type of diet the cats could both be on so that the large one doesn't gain
anymore weight, yet the smaller one will still have good food in her.
Trimming around that area can be difficult.  If the kitty won't let you,
take her to the vet and have a vet tech do it for cheap.  That way, it'll be
done right, and they can also confirm that the cat is not having troubles
with the anal sacs.

I agree with Laurie, but obviously it would be better if you could do it
yourself because of the regularity it will need doing.  Great for bonding
with your cat if you can both manage it.  It is *extremely* important that
she is kept clean; not for your comfort, but to remove the considerable risk
of fly strike, especially in summer.  If you don't know it, fly strike is
when flies lay their eggs around kitty's anus.  It results in kitty being
internally infested with maggots and, if not treated, kitty will be eaten -
or at least rotting - from the inside out.  A deeply unpleasant experience
which must be avoided. .. and if you think kitty smells now .....!

Keep the butt, back of the legs and tail shaved.  It's the only way.

Yep--pretty much the same as with a long haired dog.Gotta keep that hair
clipped around the 'ol "A" hole.Though I wouldn't go so far as to shave
there---would look weird.

You wouldn't?  So what do you propose?  Use a pair of scirrors and cut a
cutie little "A" hole haircut back there to please your eyes?  I mean, it
always about you, isn't it???  Hmmmmmm????
