Getting your kitten to stop biting

That's my question, how in the world do you get your kitten to stop biting
you?  I give him alternative toys all the time, I try to distract him but he
still won't let me pet him more than once.  I've tried saying Ow and No and
he'll stop for a second and then come right back at me.  He also can't seem
to get it in his head that eating the other cat's food is wrong, no matter
how many times he gets in trouble for it.  The other cat won't hiss at him
and backs away letting the little one eat to his heart's content.  I don't
know what to do.  I tried putting the big cat's food out of the kittens
reach but he won't eat it anymore.  Gabe (the big one) hasn't been eating
much in the past few days.  I finally realized he has decided he doesn't
like his food anymore so I gave him wet food (which he usually throws up)
and he finally ate.  I was getting so worried he was sick but I think he's
just being picky which isn't like him at all.  My husband was also gone for
5 days which may have started it all.  He also won't play with the kitten
anymore but my husband says it's maybe because the kitten is getting bigger
and bossier and Gabe doesn't want to fight.  I just don't know what to do
with either of them.  They aren't being very sociable to me or each other.
Maybe I'm a bad mom?  If anyone has any suggestions on how to help improve
things I'm open to them.  Thanks,

Marissa

It's a KITTEN.  This is NOT all about Marissa being a bad mom.  Patience.

One time I had a kitten chewing the heck out of me and one day a tooth
landed in my hand.  After he cut his new teeth in the chewing stopped.

Marissa,

You've got a baby on your hands.  He won't understand 'no' or 'ow' for quite
a while yet.  And Gabe is going through a tremendous change.  I wouldn't
give him too much canned food, if he's not used to it.  He's "put out" right
now, and is not interested in being social.  The baby needs all of your time
and energy while it explores and learns right from wrong.  Give the
adjustment period some time.  For now, can you feed Gabe on the kitchen
counter?  When I got baby Maui last April, he was fed canned kitten food
separately until he learned how to find the adult dry food.  (And they allll
get canned food on the weekends).

Just be patient.  It can take time.  However, with the biting, it seems that
the more you struggle the more a kitten wants to bite.  So what worked for
me was stopping abruptly, and the kitten usually gets bored with biting and
goes onto something else.  How old is your kitten anyway?

Jeremiah is 2 months old now.  I'll try that approach as when I make a noise
he usually takes that as a challenge.

That's what Texas did too.  If I tried to get away from him (he usually
would wrap his paws around my foot or hand and bite and bat with his back
paws), he would just struggle more and bite harder.  If I stopped and didn't
say or do anything he would stop.  And sometimes gently blowing at his head
would get him to stop too.  :)  Keep us posted on his progress.

Oh duh....sorry Marissa.  You're the one that has Jeremiah!  Sorry I didn't
make the connection earlier.  He's such a cute bugger.  :)  Trust
me...things will get better.
