I recently read of a plant that I can grow in my garden that cats react to
just like Catnip.  I can't remember the name of it.  Does anyone know what
it is?

Cats will frequently react to valerian or honeysuckle.....mind you,
honeysuckle is a vine, and I believe there is a specific type that you would
have to grow. I live near a senior citizen's complex that has perennial
honesuckle twined around their fencing.  I brought a long tendril with
orange flowers home one day.....to no avail.  Obviously not the stuff that
is in my cats' honeysuckle pouches.   Valerian is probably your best bet.
Unless someone can come up with something else?

Valerian root is also used by humans as a natural sedative, so even if your
cat doesn't take to it, you could use it to unwind :)  I used to have
valerian capsules to take to help me sleep.  They smelled awful - - - the
cats would snag them from me.....it was rather amusing :)  They loved them.

Good luck!

try to find some Catmint. I have to plant new every year because the cats
eat it down to nothing!

Yes Janet, that's the one I couldn't think of. I have seen cats rolling in
it.They go crazy for it.  DEW

Hi Mel, and everyone

The plant that I have grown is called Cat Thyme (Teucrium Marum).  It has
small greyish leaves and a very pungent aroma that most cats go crazy
about.... if given a chance they roll about in it and seem to trip out!

I've been drying the leaves and putting some along with rice (Uncooked!) to
give some weight in small fabric sachets that I make myself, and the cats
cart them all about the house.  I often make up some and give them to
friends for their cats for Xmas gifts etc.

I've tried various of the cat-herbs...... and have found that Cat Thyme has
been the most successful for my cats.  But like everything else, it doesn't
seem to affect all cats in the same way (just like cat nip...which my cats
just tend to ignore).

Cheers
~Roberta~

I would say the same thing, friend was forever mysteriously having her
plants stripped, unlucky cat got caught and supply moved elsewhere.
The7y always wondered why he seemed to be such a mellow cat lolol

Just a minute ago 2 of my sons & my husband just finished a bowl or pipe
of weed & there's Nature-boy up in my sons face. Now they make sure he's
not near it when they blow the crap out but as you well now any kind of
drugs stay in your hair.
