i have tom in an extra fridge as i was told to do by a vet. My vet is
out of town and left a number for another who is very well known and an
excellent vet also. He told me right off the bat that the only way i
can find out if it was poison was to keep his body in the fridge and
since i live in MN i would have to send him up to the U of M in order
to find out. but the problem i am having is that it's going to cost me
around $300. I am currently letting those around me know of my loss and
asking them to keep an eye out for Demi. I let the trailer park
manager know what has happened and she knows who Demi is and said that
she would keep an eye out for her. That's the only update I have. Um as
far as the autospy that is currently touch and go for now I have to
save up the money for it. I guess i might not be able to do it but i am
happy the word is out about it. My step-mom went and check peoples
yards for sticks to see if any has been treated, I guess that can
poison them too. She also walked around look for antifreeze or
something like that , that they could've got into. But for now I am
still looking for Demi. I have checked under my trailer but I couldn't
see much since i lost the flashlight.
Sincerely,
Sara
P.S. i will let you know in a couple of days whether or not i am going
to send Tom to the U of M i might just have the vet do a regular
autospy to make something crazy like he got bumped by a car and walked
over to the shed and then just died.... unlikely but atleast it would
be ruled out.

Dearest Sara,
I'm so sorry to hear of such sadness. I would be such a wreck. I will keep
the purrrrrs and prayers going for Demi. God Bless little Tom as he romps
around the Rainbow Bridge....

How difficult it must be for you to have to keep Tom in cold storage.I am
pretty sure the average autopsy would be sufficient to find out if he was
poisoned or not since it can usually be determined by a stool or blood
sample.I would have thought this could have been done initially.I went
through this with a little blind dog.Can you believe someone would poison
someone's blind pet? I didn't have to have an autopsy to determine it was
strychnine. You might check around to see if anyone is using
insecticides, weed killers or rat poison.I'll keep my fingers crossed your
little Demi still turns up O.K.. Thank you so much for the update. DEW

FWIW, Sara, I wouldn't spend money on this. Sometimes we get all caught up
in such things, in part to distract us from out grief, or to feel like at
least we're doing something. It won't bring back Tom or help you find Demi.
It won't tell you who did it if he was poisoned. And something might come
up sometime that you really need the money for.
If I were you, I'd just put the word out in the trailer park (and it sounds
like you've already done this) that there might be a toxic substance around
that people should keep locked up, or ththat someone might actually be
poisoning animals. Then I'd dig a deep hole to bury Tom's body, put a stone
over it, and have a little ceremony. And in future, I'd not let any more
animals run free.
Once again, Im' really sorry for your loss.

I know. And thanks again everyone. I had came to this conclusion last
night and i also know that $300 is too much for me at the moment. If my
vet would have been in town i would have had him do an autospy but he
wasn't and I wasn't comfortable with the other vet I have in town. I
plan on having him buried outside by the tree where i found him and
where he played when he was younger.
Thanks again and keep a good eye on your pet you never know what could
happen to them.
