Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on a problem I have with one of my
cats. Back in February, I noticed a few drops of blood and immediately took
her to my cousins vet clinic to be checked out. She ended up having quite a
bit of blood in her urine, and they thought she had a bladder infection, so
they put her on 2 weeks of an antibiotic. After 2 weeks, we did another
sample and there was still quite a bit of blood in there, so they put her on
a stronger antibiotic for 2 more weeks. Again, 2 weeks later, still quite a
bit of blood, so they put her on more. My cousin said that sometimes it is
very hard for them to get rid of the infection so we would try 2 weeks more.
After 2 more weeks, there was still alot of blood in her urine, so they did
a culture on her and also were scheduling her for surgery to remove bladder
stones.
I found out the day of her surgery that they did not do the surgery because
when they did x-rays, no bladder stones were found. They told me they could
do exploratory surgery, but she is such a little tiny thing (only weighs
about 5 pounds) that I wanted to spare her the pain and recovery. They said
it most likely is cancer, and that her prognosis wouldn't be good.
I brought her home so she could be happy here, and she seems to be extremely
happy. However, she is urinating EVERYWHERE. On the carpet, on blankets, on
my ottoman and I don't know what to do.
I told myself that I would not put her to sleep if she isn't in pain, but
cannot for the life of me, figure out why she is doing this??? Any ideas?
You can also check out her website along with her brother and sisters

Did you see another Vet for a second opinion?

Yes, I did. They thought it was the bladder stones also. I'm stunned!

Why are they still concentrating on her bladder after all those antibiotics
didn't work? It might be her kidneys or liver or reproductive organs or
any number of other things.Something just doesn't make sense.I don't
understand why they didn't find the problem with the ex-rays.You better
take some action before she bleeds to death internally.

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, Sophie isn't getting any better,
she's gotten worse. We are going to take her to be put down on Friday. I
will be able to hold her while they do it which will be best for her and I.
Thank you for your support.

I'm so sorry. We all are. Wish someone could have found a treatable
illness -- sometimes that just can't be done. May her crossing be peaceful
and your parting gentle.

Thank you so much. I do not have children, so I basically consider my cats
as children. I said I wouldn't let her suffer, and I am not going to. She'll
be at peace and that is all I am hoping for right now.

Hi,
I am new to this newsgroup but this sounds exactly like what my first
cat had. Did they check for FUS, feline urinary syndrome?
Goblin was 5 when he was diagnosed with FUS and he lived to the ripe old
age of 15. FUS is (roughly speaking) when magnesium and ash in the cat's
food crystalizes in the bladder then creates a blockage in the urine
tract. As I remember, it didn't show up on x-rays at all. The vet put a
cathater in him and drained the bladder and urinary tract and then we
had to keep him on a low ash and magnesium diet (less than 2%). But it
worked and he was around for another 10 years.
I only say this because at the time he was my only baby. If your vet
didn't check for this, maybe you should look into a second opinion. It
sounds like you love your baby as much as I love mine.
If you do have to put your baby down, I am so sorry. It's the hardest
thing in the world.

Yes, they checked for everything they could. She's such a little thing that
they couldn't get the catheter in her, and after trying twice, they didn't
want to put her through the trauma of trying again.
She is my little baby, and I am going to miss her so much. I've been bonding
with her as much as I can. Tomorrow will be a very hard for me, but I know
she will be in a better place and in peace. Thanks for your support.
