Mugsy has taken on a real thirst recently. The little feller drinks up to a
pint of water from his bowl in two or three days plus numerous drinks from
the pond. He went to the vet today and is booked in for blood tests on
Monday. He doesn't appear unwell really, his nose goes very pale every now
and then but not for very long. He has a mixed dry (iams)/wet diet.

I know the Vets will tell me Monday if there's anything up but I'm obviously
worrying about diabetes or kidney problems  - he did have a very bad
accident a year ago and one his kidneys was swollen afterwards.

Anyone else had any experience of this?

You may also want to get the vet to do a urine test if they suspect
kidney problems (which I assume they'd suggest anyway).

James,
I personally haven't experienced this problem with my cat,but I know few
cats that had these symptoms and...yes,it turned out to be either diabetes
or kidney problems....don't worry so much though, diabetes is very easily
manageable in cats....lets see what the vet says..
Take care....

<snip>

Mugsy had the all his tests today and his kidney function is not as good as
it should be. I can only imagine that, being only 2 years old, this must be
as a result of his nast accident a year ago when he suffered significant
trauma to his hip/thigh/lower back area - the vets did report a swollen
kidney at the time.

He has been prescribed benazepril hydrochloride with a review in a couple of
weeks time.  Poor little feller.

I hope the drugs help.  Did the vet say he should recover, or is it "up in
the air"?

Sorry to hear that James. Did they give you a copy of the test
results? I'd be interested in knowing just how bad the kidney function
is...

Troy.
