So far, 4 cats have been reported murdered in Sheboygan, WI.  Did you
know that they are trying to make it legal to hunt or kill (in any
fashion) feral and stray cats in Wisconsin? This would mean that it
would be open season on all cats without a collar. This evilness must
stop.  Please check out dontshoothecat.com

This bill has been struck down.  It was made official.  I do not have the links any longer, as I delete the posts when I am done with them, but that bill was not passed.  Wisconsin will not be known as a state that shoots house cats.

There was never any danger of that, only ferels were in danger of being
shot (if the bill had passed)

And if you believe that i've got a bridge to sell you.

There was going to be the inevitable incident where a neighbor removes
the cats collar and shoots it saying "oops I thought it was ferral."

The definition of ferral was a cat without a collar and I saw nothing
preventing someone from removing a cats collar.

BTW, the hunting age is not going from 12 to 10.  That was shot down.

Sure, but that's not really any different from someone shooting a cat
today and not attaching their business card.

How much effort do you think the good police in Wisconsin spend finding
out who killed a cat?

It would have legitimised it, which would make it harder to prosecute them.

None, if they have the sense to realize that the murder of a human being and
many other countless things are far more important.

WHO THE #$@^ WOULD SHOOT A STRAY FELINE?! IT'S INHUMANE! What moron would
make a law saying it's legal to kill strays?!

Is it unfathomable to you that a different reality exists in Wisconsin
regarding the stray cat population?

IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE SOMEONE ACTUALLY LOVES FELINES AND WOULD NEVER
EVEN THINK OF KILLING ONE NO MATTER HOW MUCH IT GOT ON THIER NERVES?!
APPARENTLY NOT OTHERWISE YOU WOULDN'T ASK SUCH ADUMB QUESTION!>:(

Well darling, get your mind around the concept because it happens every
hour.  "Getting on your nerves" has to include putting a cat down that is
terminal and in such extreme discomfort that you can't stand to witness the
suffering any longer.

I mean if there wasn't any need to kill them. I mean sure if they were
really old or sick I'd put 'em down but still i would miss them.

The "need" is defined in the WI law.   Ferul cats carry disease and there is
no way enough people could catch a significant number of these cats and turn
them over for sterilzation, shots, etc to correct an overpopulation. Costs
money too. Look what happens when squirrels, deer, wolves, etc start to
overpopulate a given area.

What danger(s), if any, do these diseases present to the human and/or
domesticated animal populations?

Further, wouldn't this law simply make it easier for someone to kill
*any* cats they might see, just out of sheer malice? What's to stop
someone from taking aim at the neighbor's pet, removing the animal's
collar and relocating the remains, then claiming they saw the cat in
their own yard, without any collar, menacing the local fauna?

Google is your friend.  Pay attention to WHO is allowed to kill off stray /
ferule cats and who is not.

Google isn't here on this newsgroup discussing the law. You are. That's
why I'm asking you. I'm asking *you* for *your* thoughts on my questions.

BTW, were I to do a web search on the matter, which search term would I
use--"ferul" or "ferule"?

My time is better spent on matters domestic.

Feral.  Wouldn't want you reading up on punishing cats with a silver rod
(ferule)   ;-)

Confession is good for the soul. Keep it up.
