Hello. This is my first post to this group.
My girlfriend and I own a isx month old domestic short-hair male. Just
this past Wednesday he was neutered. The rest of that day, Thursday and
Friday he seemed fine, though our doctor advised the Clavamox could make
him ill and that our kitten may lick the area of operation a lot.
Beginning yesterday we noticed that he has been licking the area of his
bosy just above where he was operated (i.e. his lower stomach) bare. He
has licked about a one-square inch area bald. The skind underneath is
healthy and pink with no sign of infection.
Like I said before, our vet said he may lick himself a lot in that region
following the operation.
Any idea how normal this is, and for how long this will last?
All help is appreciated in advance.
Thanks!!!

Hello and welcome!
This does seem a little odd to me - but I'm no expert. Some licking,
particularly in the first day or two is entirely normal but licking so much
that he's licked the fur away seems excessive. Perhaps he is experiencing
some pain. I would definately contact the vet. Most have after hours
contact info available - it costs nothing to call for a professional
opinion. If your vet thinks he should be seen, he/she will tell you to
bring him in.

How does he seem otherwise? Is he eating and playing? Is he using the
litter OK? Best of luck to you and purrs for kitty!

Thanks for the response. He doesn't seem to be in any pain and is otherwise
his usual self. He's eating well, running around, sleeping as much as he
usually does, using his litter box without incident, etc.
I'll call the vet tomorrow and see what they say.

This seems a bit wierd to me also. Out of the 8 males I have had done this has
never happened. If he is licking alot then it could be from infection.
