I have a BSH black cat, she is 11 months old, and i want my partner to move
in with me, but he has a male maine coon cat who is 9 years old. Generally,
they are getting on better, as they both spend a lot of time together
outside; ( we live in the same property); but we are worried about how well
they will be with each other living in the same apartment.
They have started to get used to each other in the same apartment, and we
keep them well supervised, but are there any tips you could give us as we
would like them to get on well, and live together permanently.
yours faithfully,
Vicky & Shadow

catnip...lots and lots of catnip. It has a way of breaking down barriers. Get
"new" toys so each one will not be offended with the other playing with its toy
(more important for dogs but can apply to cats), and play with them both in
what they consider to be neutral territory. Then be patient and don't force the
issue.

I'd broadly go along with that, but be aware that not all cats react to
catnip. My 10yr old Missy has no interest in it whatsoever..!

Hi Ivor,
I have a cat that doesn't react to store bought catnip. But when I grow
fresh catnip and give it to her, she goes nuts. Have you ever tried fresh
catnip? Maybe your cat is like mine and would prefer the fresh stuff.

I'd also try Feliway spray. It seems to work well for
the one very nervous cat we have who occasionally gets
to feeling crowded.
