I have a 2-year-old black cat who has a light yellow ooze coming out of
both eyes. I first thought it might be sleep in his eyes but it looks like
there is too much to be sleep. One eye was shut and the other is not quite
open all the way. I wiped his eyes with a damp, warm cloth to clear it out
which helped. I am concerned that it might be an infection of some kind.
this is the first cat I have had with any kind of problem like this. Is
there any over the counter or home medications/remidies that I can try to
clear it up?

Nope, your cat needs antibiotics. Please take him to the vet asap.

Have the vet check both eyes. There could be scratches on both of them,
causing corneal ulcers or some other condition, which would account for
that particular symptom.

Why would you look for OTC or home remedies before consulting a vet?
Your cat has a problem that won't be solved by a post in this ng.

I agree that this is probably an issue for a vet. If it was just weeping
from rhinitis I'd say to ask your vet for a salve, but this sounds like it
might be puss (color.)
That may indicate an infection or something else, so best to pop around to
the vet and let him have a look at that pussycat to see what the real
problem is. The eyes may just a a symptom. (Perhaps of an upper respiratory
illness or somesuch.)

i've had that problem with 2 cats recently .. the first one was a symptom of
a respiratory problem .. antibiotics and a salve worked wonders .. the trip
to the vet was definitely called for .. the 2nd one was the result of a
scratch, and since we knew what the problem was the leftover antibiotics
and leftover salve from the first one fixed him right up
