Hi,
We have a small size(8 lbs.), 6 yr. old female orange tabby with short
hair. We had her since she was 6 mo. old. she has white chin, chest, belly and
paws. About a year or so ago, we noticed she is losing hair on back of her
feet and hands. The hair loss now has spread to her belly toward her rectum.
Otherwise she looks healthy. She is mostly an indoor cat but likes to go
outside couple of hours in the morning only. We use frontline and I don't
think she has any flees. Any ideas why she is losing hair and how to stop it
are appreciated.

It's either endocrine alopecia (hair loss caused by abnormal hormone
levels in the endocrine system) or psychogenic alopecia (stress-related
hair loss). The fur loss you describe is symptomatic of either
condition. Both require hormone therapy; the latter would likely also
include antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication. Get her to the vet
soon, soon, soon, so a diagnosis can be made and treatment can begin.
