Our 8 year old neutored Tom has bald patches on his legs, getting
progressively larger  (the bald patches not the cat.!)

Thje 1st vet sugfested stress (a cat that spends most of the day
asleep with no rival felines).   New vet has suggested an allergic
reaction to food - he eats Whiskas pouches (cat not vet).

anyone else any ideas?

Have you noticed if the cat grooms himself a lot?

Has anything changed in your house? New baby? New dog? Construction?
Lots of things can stress a cat.

Could be allergies (I'm assuming he has no fleas, right?) to food. Try
feeding him something of a better quality. Nutro max is good and not
expensive. Find a formula without corn in it, it's a common allergen for
cats.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

Definately no fleas.
We're not familiar with Nutro Max this side of the Atlantic.    We've
tried a special (dry) food recommentded (& sold by) the vet but he
won't touch it.We've also tried fresh-cooked chicken, both dry-fried
and boiled - still not impressed.    We are going try getting rid of
the plastic food dishes in case it's a reaction to plastic.

Thanks

I'll ask my european friends for brands available in the UK. I'll report
back.

My sources say Royal Canin Sensible available at Pets at Home is a good
choice for your problem. She also mentioned James Wellbeloved.

Get your vet to check his anal glands - one of mine had bald patches
on his legs, we tried food allergies, skin irritations, bathing him
etc.  Turned out his anal glands were full, and he wasn't comfortable.
tTakes the vet a few seconds to sort out, thats all.
