We have 3 maile cats all about 7 years old. All have been neutered, but
recently one of them is trying to mate with another. He climbs onto the
back of the other cat, sort of marches with his feet and bites him on the
neck. Is is possible that he wasn't neutered enough or that something grew
back?
Thanks,
Dave

I have seen this before but I think it is "You need to submit to me"
behavior and not really sexual. When they are nuetered the entire testical
is cut along with part of the connecting cord. There is no way anything
could grow back.

It can't grow back, but if the cat is cryptorchid, that is one of the
testicles has not descended into the scrotal sac, the vet may think
it never formed and leave the cat with male hormones. I had one who
required extensive surgery to find that testicle.
I agree it is usually a matter of dominance, not sexuality. You can
usually tell a full male cat by their spraying and the smell of the
urine.

Kiwi started to hump his toy husky when he was only about 4 months old,
he was neutered at 6months and although he doesnt do it as much he still
humps his toy husky at least once a day(he's now 8months). The vet he
last saw said that one of her neutered cats does the same. He is
however a very dominant cat(always has been) and is always wondering
round the house meowing like a tom cat! Nobody else I know who has cats
has ever had a neutered cat that does this, so I guess it cant be that
common and both testicles have definatly been removed. I know however
that in horses some geldings that were castrated late or were quite
dominant before also remember what to to and will mate unsucessfully
with mares.

No, he is just asserting his dominance over the other one. Nothing to worry
about.

Thanks all for the help. I wouldn't have thought it was the dominance thing
becasue the one who is doing it is not the dominant one. Of the 3, the
smallest is the dominant and waps the other two all the time. The biggest
is the least dominant and I keep thinking someday he's going to realize he
can whoop the little one, but so far it hasn't happend.
Cheers,
Dave
