I have had cats that would ignore ANY bowl of water you set down for them;
however, set a glass you are drinking out of down, and you would find a
furry head plunged in to the neck ;-)
You might try a drinking fountain like Drinkwell or Petsmart sells one as
well. Cat's LOVE moving water to drink rather than still water. They also
love to "find" a water source rather than be given one--that is their
stubborn independent nature peeking out.

For a time, both my previous and present cat drank from water sources other
than the bowl. As it turned out, the bowl (situated near the food bowl) was
in the wrong location - according to the cats.
Once I moved the water bowl to another location - just outside the bathroom
door on the second floor, the drinking from everywhere but the bowl stopped.
Mind you, recently my current cat has taken a notion to sneaking a sip out
of the humidifier reservoir husband is refilling the tank. She'll be
drinking from the water bowl and when my husband goes into the bedroom to
remove the tank, she dashes in for a slurp. Haven't figured this one out yet
:c)

Yes, this seems to be quite a common thing. Cougar (now dead, alas) played
with my cascade pond, played with water-butt water between tap and
watering-can, jumped in the sink, paddled in puddles, tried to drink my
water, tea, cola, whatever. Nutty as a fruitcake.
Panther (current cat) thrusts her head into flow of water between
watering-can and plant, plays with fountain in pond, puts her paws in her
drinking bowl and sploshes it about. Now, if it's raining .. *no way* will
she stay out in it. She comes in and looks at me as if I made it rain on
purpose!
Cats *are* strange about water, whether it's drinking or playing. If the
vet is happy and the cat is happy, *relax*.
