Hi, my husband and I have had our cat for over a year now. She is a house cat and has never had a problem using the litter box. She goes into heat about once a month for about a week at a time (we haven't had her spayed yet) but this time she's been in heat for over two weeks. And she's acting like she's going to go crazy if she doesn't get outside, running around the house making that sound as loud as she can and she just started urinating everywhere. Is this because she's not spayed or could it be another problem? She also seems more "mean" lately too. She's always been mean, like if I wouldn't let her outside she would attack my feet, but lately she's been worse. Also, we got her from a friend who found her on the side of the road with her belly split open when her eyes weren't even open yet. They took her to a vet and we had to bottle feed her and everything, and I have a friend who had a similar incidence and her cat was mean too. I don't know if this would have anything to do with what 's going on right now but I would REALLY appreciate anyone's help on this!! Think about it..... You'd get a little ornery if you weren't able to occasionally fulfill a basic biological need every now and then. This isn't going to stop and will only get worse unless you either let her get pregnant or have her fixed. There's nothing she can do about it except what she's doing now, so it's up to you. Get her fixed and there is less likely to be kittens found along side the road with their bellies split open. People who take the kittens you produce might have taken one from a sicko like the one that threw your kitten out. She is frustrated, horny, and not sure what to do about it since she doesn't have access to any males. I recommend that you get her spayed PRONTO!!! This will take care of her mean streak, and her going bonkers. A female in heat will spray/urinate around the house to attract any males that might be in the area. In the great outdoors, unspayed females do this regularly when they are in heat. Again, it attracts the males in the area, and then they can choose which tom they will breed with. Again, spaying her will stop this urinating problem as well. Get her spayed immediately!!! Yesterday is not soon enough. I am curious as to why you haven't had her spayed yet? As she gets older her heats can last as long as 3 yes 3 weeks. A week to get to peak of heat and a week to get off peek. I don't have to tell you what the mid week is for. Any way she will spray, and go crazy during this time. She's in mental pain not physical. This is one reason they suggest getting them fixed at 6 months. To try to get them before their first heat. It really depends on the vet. Check you local humane society for coupons or call your local cat rescue society for donations to help you spay here. It is typically more expensive to spay than it is to neuter though. It is really hard to give an average for both of these questions because so many factors could change it for you, eg. local economy, heat, population, etc. You'll just have to make a few phone calls to be absolutly sure. hth Hey Wolf, I'm only asking for a ballpark figure here.Since I have no idea at all. One was 1? and the other 3? years old. Stone I also want to add that when my mom & I had our female cat spayed, it was about $100 because she was already in heat when she got spayed. Actually, The Wiskers Project, a local program for spaying and neutering strays and then finding barn homes for them, spayed and neutered all of my cats. The only thing I have to pay for is food. (all 16 eat REALLY well! Salmon liquified over dry catfood) I think spaying was around 60 while neuteres were 40. Why don't you phone the Vets in your area and ask for their prices. They ill be happy to give you the information. MLB There is no real ballpark figure here. If the cat is 6 months old and has never had shots you have to get shots first. That's around $100 to do, again depending on vet. Then there is waiting ten days before they will operate, again depending on vet. I have known some that will operate and give all shots while they are under and keep them overnight for observation in case they have a reaction to the shots or surgery. Yet I have a vet here that I got two cats and a dog vetted for only $160 total.(Shots only) 2 4 in 1 shots (cats) 2 Leukemia shots (cats) 3 Rabies (cats and dog) 1 7 in 1 (dog) 1 blood test for heart worms. (dog) 1 6 month heartworm prevention shot ((dog)No longer available.) Yet if I take 1 animal to the other nearest vet (20 min away) it costs $100 just for shots not an exam or anything just shots. My local vet down the street will neuter for $35 dollars. Spay for $65 it takes a month to get an appointment. The other vet that's 20 min away is $50 to neuter and $75 to spay and a 2 week appointment wait. So it's not a ball park is a sess pool.
