Companion Pet Clinic in Beaverton, OR
I spend an absolute fortune there and when it comes down to something ever
so slightly difficult, I think the fn guess.
I spent $150 for exam and medicine.
Simba was having problems urintaing, howling while doing so and his urine
looked red.
I take him in and they keep him overnight to get a urine sample.
Of course, antibiotics were prescribed like all the freaking other times.
Well, after two weeks of that, Simba is still having problems. He is taking
orever to pee, so I take a very close look at the urine, mostly looking at
the color, when I notice a very tiny worm moving in the middle of the spot
he just peed on.
This means that worms were likely the problem all along and they should have
found it.
Furthermore, you don't treat worms with $45 antibiotics.
I'm pissed and am going to let them know about it.
I may take my business elsewhere.

Sounds like a very good idea; if this happened once, even if you complain,
that's no guarantee they'll be any more competent in the future. Another
vet sounds like a very good idea....I would suggest asking friends with pets
to recommend one they're happy with, so you know right off the bat you're
going to someone good.
And I don't think asking for a refund of your money would be an unreasonable
thing to do as well; that's *malpractice*, pure and simple (particularly as
the cat experienced pain and suffering due to their neglect, and his body
may be getting tolerant to the overuse of antibiotics so that they won't
work as well when he really *does* need them)!!!
Best of Luck,
Ann

I'm sorry to hear about your poor puss, Tom. I suggest you take Simba to
another vet - immediately - and ask about the possibility of him having
bladder stones. An x-ray should show them up if they exist. Of course, it
might be something else, I'm just making a suggestion.
The little worms you saw may not necessarily be connected with Simba's
urination. Perhaps they're a separate issue - in which case he'll need to
be wormed as well.
Hope everything works out well for you.

Do you really feel he's helping? Because if not, it wouldn't hurt to at
least get a second opinion....I'd just hate to see you throwing good money
after bad, especially if Simba may not actually be getting the care he
needs.
Just a thought, I'm a bit concerned for you both, is all....

LOL....I think we're a pretty mixed bunch here, we pretty much span the
globe! :)
(I know Marina is from Finland, and I'm pretty sure someone else is from
Sweden - is it Hugo kitty? - so I can only imagine what other countries are
represented, as I'm still getting to know everybody myself!)

Er....actually, that's rec.pets.cats.anecdotes, *oops*....I'm not sure who's
from where in this group, come to think of it, but I think we're pretty
mixed here, too (I'm an American in UK, so I'm obviously pretty mixed up
myself).... :}
